Get a Eueka Envirosteamer mop. I have one and like it because it does not leave the floor too wet. I did research before buying it and it had the best customer ratings.
I have all real hard wood floors. They are the original floors from when the house was built in 1940 and are only sealed with wax. I really badly want something to help me clean my floors as I just don't have the time to get on my hands and knees every week for the entire house. With the shark the floor also drys so quickly (or so according to the t.v.).
Does anyone have the shark? Where did you purchase it? The t.v. has it where you buy the shark and get the hand held free, has anyone purchased it this way? Would think even work with waxed floors?
I would apreciate ANY input as I grew up with carpeting and never had to deal with this. We specifically just purchased our house due to the hardwood floors (our kids have asthma and the doctor recommended no carpeting). I am really up in the air on this issue. Please help me make my decision before I spend the $180 on the system.
Thank you so much in advance.

A sponge mop and 1/4 cup of white vinegar in a gallon of clean water works well on waxed wood floors. To restore the glossy shine, wrap the head of the mop in waxed paper and buff the floor lightly.
I have the Shark Steam Mop. However, I don't have hard wood floors, just lanoleum. I LOVE mine....takes the hard work out of mopping. I got mine at Wal mart, which was cheaper than off of the TV. Later on, I bought the hand held as well. I LOVE it even more. So much easier to clean my showers with the hand held! Sorry I can't tell you about the hardwood for it, but as for using them, they are super easy and less work! Have you checked out their website to see what they say about hardwood floors?
I have the Shark Steam Pocket Mop and LOVE it! We have all hardwood floors and tile and it cleans the floors really well (even the really sticky, dried on messes), is easy and quick to use and dries almost instantly. The Pocket Mop is double sided, so you get twice the use out of one washable pad, has a big enough water tank that I can do my entire house (2400 sq. ft.) and only have to refill once and gets very hot and steamy in just a few seconds. Since it uses plain water and no chemicals, I can clean the floor while my toddler plays just a few feet away and there's no waiting for drying. I went ahead and bought an extra set of pads because I do 2 heavy traffic areas of my home daily. They recommend washing the pads with nothing else, so with the extra set I can do a small load weekly instead of washing 4 pads alone. I bought mine from Shark's website and got a GREAT deal with free shipping. If you think the handheld steamer is worth $60, then go for it. If not, Bed Bath and Beyond have the Steam Pocket Mops for $120 and you can probably use a 20% coupon for it too. Target has them for $120 too. Good luck!
Ok, first, I had the Shark Steamer (not the pro, so maybe not the best advice but here goes nothing) I have a lot of tile....I mean a lot of tile and the Shark steam mop did a good job getting out stains and grime. However, my biggest complaint is that it takes forrrrever to mop that much tile with a steam mop and it is backbreaking. Granted I do have 3 foster kids and they are very good at making a big mess for me to clean up. I bought it at bed bath and beyond.
I just saw an infomercial for another steam mop that has a detachable handheld...it was about 100 I think, accessories were an extra 18...you'd have to read reviews online and see about long term use, but it has a one year warranty. Not sure if it's in stores yet. It's probably why Shark is now offering the handheld with the mop..

I'm not sure how it would be with your wood, but it made ours streaky. Luckily, I found this out by borrowing my friend's, so I was glad I didn't buy it since I didn't want to deal with the streaks. Otherwise, I definitely recommend it!
Given what I know now I would never buy the shark. It does not clean down to the surface. What I end up doing is moping the floor and while it is still wet use the shark to pick up the dirty water and dry it. It does come out very clean but it is a ridiculous amount of work considering the shark is supposed to do it all.
He Ted's Mommy,
I used their general cleaning shark and took it back. When the steam finally reached the cloth, it was cool and didn't disolve the dirt. I think the mop version would work the same.
Good Luck

Oh I love my steam mop. I have tile and hard wood in the house and find it cleans really well on both. I have to admit, though, since we have alot of pets I sweep, then Swiffer cloth before I mop to make sure I get up all the loose dirt first.
I got mine at Walmart for about $70.
I Own the Shark Pro Steam Mop (the larger one) it has several cleaning pads of various sizes and a very large resovoir to hold the water. I absolutely LOVE mine. We have old peg board hardwood floors through out most of our home, and ceramic tiles in a portion as well. I bought mine at ostco, and I want to say that the larger one was less than $175, and if you go with the smaller version (one cleaning pad and smaller resovior) it's around $75. Costco is the cheapest I've seen them, but I bought mine years ago, and I think they are more widely available now- Wal-Mart may carry them for less. It's the best and easiest product I've found to clean the floors. Not only is it very easy to use, it's environmently, kid and pet friendly since it doesn't use any harsh chemicals. It dries quickly and cleans better than anything else I've tried. I hope this helps! The only downfall I found, is all of the cleaning pads need to be washed separately and you can't use bleach and they must be air dried. Other than that, I would highly recommend it! Good luck!
I got the steam shark, the bigger one, and really wanted it to work as I also do not have any carpet in my house. I thought it would clean everything so easily and without chemicals. Unfortunately it didn't clean as well as I wanted it to. It left a film over all of the areas on my hard wood that I used it on. I suspect it was because you need to change the cotton pad too much. It wasn't picking up the dirt either. I had to go back over the cloudy filmy areas with a cleaner, on my hands and knees.
No fun.
Now I just use vinegar and water. It seems to work the best for me without chemicals that are harmful.
Good luck in your search.
