Selling Jewelry Advice

I just sold some old jewelry I had. Like you, nothing of extremem value, I had a couple of heart necklaces with little diamonds, a ring that is gold but missing the diamond, and I think I had a chain necklace. I took them to a reputable jewelry store that weighed them and looked up the current price of and gace a price. I got $108. I remember years ago I took 2 beautiful solid gold rings into a PAWN shop and got $45!! Trust me, find a legit jewelry store in the area and go there, it doesnt really hurt either to go to a couple of places to ease your mind!

I was in the same situation. Plus I inherited jewelry from a friend, what to do? I went to a jeweler and had them give me a value of everything, it didn't cost anything to do and I was prepared. After getting a few quotes i went back to the jeweler and sold my jewelry to them. i don't know how trust worthy the pawn shops were but they didn't give me as much as the jeweler! Good luck!

Find a place buying gold, that pays by the weight. I had a baggie full of 1/2 sets of earings, old chains & charms, quite a bit, literally walked out of the coin store with a check for $1100.00. Gold was over $1400 an oz. a while back. Go to the Monex exhchange (metal stock market) and see what the price per ounce is. As far as the diamonds or stones, I agree with the poster below, sell them to friends, jewelry stores will not give you a fraction of what they are worth.

You must likely will only get a fraction of the price that you paid. People always assume they are sitting on thousands of dollars. I worked in fine jewelry for five years and have seen people's reaction when you tell them what their things are worth.

Your BEST bet is to figure out what you actually have. 10K, 14K or 18K gold. Let your friends look at it and sell it to them. I have done this and everybody was very happy with thier new pieces. They got a great deal and you got the cash.
