Hi Moms!

I am really having some problems with my current obgyn for some issues that were not caught soon enough, and because they are trying to bill my insurance for procedures I did not have!!! I really feel nervous about staying there because so much has been overlooked these past few months. However, when I started calling around I have not been able to find a dr. that will take me 21 weeks into my pregnancy! I am looking for a doctor in the Farmington area that is affiliated with Beaumont Hospital. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already tried the Woman's Health Institute (Beaumont Medical Bldg) as well as Mission OBGYN with no success.

Thanks!

H.

You can try West Oakland OBGYN (Dr. Gruskin is fabulous!). They are located on 12 Mile near Drake Rd. (34505 W. Twelve Mile Rd. Suite 195). The office number is ###-###-####.

I also see Dr. Lori Shoha mentioned in another response -but not sure about how they accept their patients.

Hi H.,

WOW! I can't believe someone would turn away a woman in need of prenatal care! What would they have told you if you had just moved from another state? Or if you simply for some odd reason JUST found out you were preggers?

Try West Oakland ObGyn. Dr. Laura Gruskin is the main doctor and they have another location as well with more doctors. There is also Kathleen Payson who works in the same building as Dr. Gruskin. Kathleen is more of a midwife than a doctor but she has an internal medicine background. She actually discovered that I had high cholesterol when all I went in for was a "lady" physical! I have seen both of them and each is wonderful. Unfortuately I lost my baby so I didn't get the whole experience!

What I loved most was that Dr. Gruskin has an ultrasound machine in her room. I'm not sure how often she does them but I know they schedule you for one around 8-12 weeks. I had three or four because I was having problems. It's not a sharp as the one at the hospital but it's still a comfort to know that she is looking inside to see if any early complications arise.

Their hospital is Royal Oak Beaumont.

I would call and ask to speak to one of them directly so you can explain your situation. I would like to think that they would not turn away anyone seeking prenatal care!

They are located on the South side of 12 mile and just East of Drake.

Good luck! I hope someone takes you in! Please let me know if you call and what they say...

I go to Mission OBGYN, and they've partnered with Modern OBGYN (previous person recommended Dr. Shoha). Since I delivered on a weekend, Dr. Shoha (Modern OBGYN) covered for my doctor.

She is fabulous! Give Modern OBGYN a call. They have a website as well http://www.modernobgyn.com/ I have no idea if they'll take you, but it's worth a try.

Hi, H.--

Try Dr. Rebecca Williams, in Southfield on Northwestern Highway. She is excellent, was a professor at Henry Ford for years, then has been in private practice for years also. I don't know what her policy is, but she's very nice. If you can't change doctors, then you need to have a frank discussion with them and state your concerns, even about whether they've overlooked some things. Be polite, but assertive. Doctors and their staff are more careful with patients if they think you're paying attention, and it won't cause you to have worse care. Good luck--

I have had 3 deliveries by Metro Partners in Women's Health through Providence Hospital(southfield and Novi) and had an awesome experience. I don't know their policies about taking you @ 21 weeks, but I would try anyway. They're a great practice, their office is in Novi, and number is ###-###-####.

Blessings!

I've delivered with both of these doctors and really love both of them (they used to be in the same practice):

Dr. Laura Gruskin
West Oakland OB/GYN
12 Mile Road, between Drake and Farmington
###-###-####

Dr. Lori Shoha
Modern OB/GYN
14 Mile at Farmington
###-###-####

I haven't been in your position, so I'm not sure if they accept patients mid-pregnancy. Good luck!
