Dr. Dawn Magee at the Assoc. for Women's Health. She is WONDERFUL! Or anyone else in that practice....
I am in my 12th week & need a new OBGYN in Chicago, preferably in the city. Any referrals out there? I'm looking for someone who will actually listen to me &/or explain things in layman's terms, since I never went to med school...

Dr Shawn Davies is great! He is out of Rush University Medical Center. He is easy to talk to, spends a lot of time with his patients, and is very good at explaining things. Just in case you have to have a c section, he gives a very low, small incision.
Hi C.,
I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses on this, but I just wanted to say that I love my OBGYN, Dr. Micah Garb at Lakeshore OBGYN at 680 N Lakeshore Dr, 8th floor - he's a guy so I don't know if you're cool with that, but he is super nice and explains things in a non-intimidating way. He even jokes with my husband when he comes to appointments with me and came highly recommended from another one of my doctors (which is how I heard of him, he delivered her baby because he was the on-call doctor and she liked him more than her original OB at the same practice because he was so calming). I have met all of the doctors at the practice through my pregnancy and they are all great, but some are more into "medical lingo" than others, but they are the ones with that have been there the longest and aren't accepting new patients. Overall it's a great practice. If I could say anything of where NOT to go, please stay away from the clinic at 333 W Superior in Prentice. Read my review on them for full details. Good luck!
My Gynecologist is great.

I would also like to second the group at Progressive Care for Women (www.pc4w.com) - ###-###-####. All the doctors are wonderful. My primary is Dr. Hakimian. I started going there after 2 of my husband's friend's wives delivered with her and recommended her highly.
It seems everyone delivers at Northwestern but I am hopeing to use the Alternate Birthing Center for a natural childbirth (any day now) at Illinois Masonic. The doctors I saw at Illinois Massonic GYN Physician Group: Dr. Popper, Dr. Darrel, Dr. Bicalo are good but who I really like are the Certified Nurse Midwives. They are more laid back and spend more time answering questions and explaining options to you. It's something you might want to consider. Miasonic even has a free evening class that discusses how a Midwife differs from a doctor to help you make your decision.
You can contact the doctors at ###-###-#### or the midwife practice (which is overseen by the same doctors) at ###-###-####. Both offices are near Halsted and Wellington in the city. Good luck!
I really like my ob-gyn's - Dr. Davies and Dr. Colgrove. It is a 2 person practice and patients switch off between the 2 docs for prenatal care. They are at Rush. Both are caring, friendly, and they take the time to explain things. Their number is ###-###-####.
When I lived in the city, I loved my doctor, Dr. Eden Tahksh (pronounced Tash). He has an office across from the Art Institute, ###-###-####, and one on North Avenue by Halsted, ###-###-####. The North Avenue practice also has a great pediatrician named Richard Spangler.
Dr. Tahksh is great at explaining things, and he always listened to my concerns and took them seriously, calming my fears whenever I had any. He works with a partner, Dr. Tracy Vera, at the downtown office, who is also very nice. His staff is excellent, too.
The one problem with having Dr. Takhsh as my OBGYN is that he was not on call when I went into labor, and I ended up having some other doctor deliver my baby. I would have loved to have him do it, since I was super comfortable with him, but everything worked out okay.
Good luck!
I want to second Amy's suggestion. In that same group, I see Dr. Ann Starr. I'v met with them all and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked each doc.
I loved my old OB/GYN in the city. Her name is Irma Sodini, MD. Sorry I don't have her number but I am sure you can find it.
I would recommend looking into midwifery care. The attention is SO much better. You will have someone who actually spends time with you and you will have a better shot at a better birth.
Midwifery care is a better option for those who are low risk. Save the OBs for those who are high risk (ie. maternal health problems).
www.birthlink.com is a great website
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! Enjoy it. What a wonderful thing to experience.
I also really recommend looking into extensive childbirth classes. No matter what you are thinking at this point-- Take a good class. Not a one-day class at the hospital.

Dr. Norman Ginsberg is fantastic!!! He's affiliated with Northwestern too. He takes his time to talk to you at every visit and will explain things to you. He's like a kind grandpa and he really knows his stuff. He's well respected in the medical community because he is the expert on the CVS procedure, the alternative to amnio that can be done earlier in pregnacy. Good luck and congratulations.
I just had a baby in January and my OB was Dr Chen and Dr Garvey who are at the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group. Here is their information:

I have also saw Dr Moses-they were all very nice and took the time to explain things. Northwestern will open their brand new hospital in October! I love them. Good luck and congrats!!
Hi C.,
I have to agree with Amy, I love Dr. Garvey and Dr. Moses at Northwestern!! There practice has a mixture of male and female doctors - and they are all wonderful! Dr. Garvey has a wonderful bedside manner, and he makes you feel like no question or request is too stupid! They really took care of me when I gave birth to my little boy in December 2006 :)
A..
i go to Dr. Parul Gupta at Lakeshore Obstetrics. They are located at Northwestern Hospital. She is a great Dr., unbelievably nice and really patient. I just referred my cousin to her and she loves her as well.
