Does anyone know of a great mosquito repellent for children that doesn't have any harsh chemicals? I have tried Avon Skin so Soft but didn't have great luck. Thank you!

We use the Repel, it is lemon and eucalyptus, it is very safe and effective. You will find it in the sporting goods/camping section at Target and Walmart
Lemon Balm is an herb that you can grow. It smells like citronella. You just rub the leaves on your skin. I bought my plant at Rhode's organic nursery in Garland. Good luck!
Equi-Organics makes a product (for horses, but works great for people too) called "Natural 7" that we bought at Green Mama's (5324 Davis Blvd. N Richland Hills, TX 76180###-###-####). We bought 32 oz bottle of concentrate over 3 years ago and still over more than 1/3 of the bottle left so it is extremely economic! It is completely organic, and contains no harsh chemicals, pesticides, artificial dyes, or fragrances. Active ingredients are: Aloe Vera Gel, Citronella oil, Clove, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cedar wood, and Orange oil. It smells great and works well!
Over the past year I have changed my families lifestyle to an organic, natural way of living. I am a distributor of Young Living's Essential Oils. We have an oil blend call Purification and it is great at repelling nasty little insects. You can check ou the product at www.youngliving.us and if you decide to order, email me and I will give you my distributor number so you can sign up under me. They have awesome products and that is what we use now instead of modern medicine....
Avon bug guard expedition is a good choice for kids. Its deet free and has spf 30.
We had good results with SUNSWAT. It comes in a small, yellow spray bottle and is sold at SPROUTS. It was $6.99, which is expensive, but I bought it on clearance for only $1.99 last year. I'm thinking I will give that "Natural 7" for horses a try. ((see recommendation below)).

Dear M.,
Arbonne has a product that is pure, safe and natural. It is in their aromatherapy line and it is called "Awaken Rejuvenating Body Mist". The reason it works so well as a mosquito repellant is because it has citrus oil in it and mosquitos don't like it. It is what I use on my family and granddaughters. I would be happy to meet with you and give you a bottle to try if you would like. Just call or email me and we can arrange a time and place to meet.

We use the Avon sunblock with bug repellent. It works great for us, but to be honest im not sure what is in it exactly.
Otherwise you might try going to WholeFoods, or Central Market, and ask them. I know that they carry a few different ones.
Burt's Bees has a bug repellent that is safe and natural. It comes in a spray bottle.
I am interested in your replies. I am looking for something, too.

There is some that is stricly a citronella. I think its called Citronella. Find it at The Right Start.
Listerine in a spray bottle.
Cactus juice. I get mine at a scuba shop.
California Baby makes on without all the chemicals. I think Target carries it in the baby aisle.
The Avon bug guard works really well. I researched the main ingredient before I purchased it to make sure they're safe for kids/people and there is no deet in it. It works better than straight skin so soft. There's one by Kiss My Face that is citronella based that works pretty well too, I think you can get it at Whole Foods or Sprouts. Otherwise at kissmyface.com.
Also, when my husband traveled for work to foreign countries where he had to take malaria drugs they told him to avoid bananas. There's something in them that makes your scent more appealing to bugs.
Try Arbonne Aromassentials the Awaken flavor. It is awesome. It is all natural and I use the lotion and the spray on my kids and the smell is great. I don't sell Arbonne but you can find a consultant on the internet or check the classifieds here on MamaSource. Hope this helps.
