Seeking Moms Who've Experienced a Rash on Their Baby When Using Pampers Diapers

I have a 13 month old and I recently switched him to pampers diapers because they were more cost effective than the previous brand I was using but have noticed that he has a rash on his lower abdomen area. He has also started to eat some table food so I don't know if maybe that is what is causing the rash? It doesn't hurt him at all when I change his diaper or give him a bath. It is red in color and is not anywhere else on his diaper area. Has anyone else experienced this with pampers diapers or do I need to look into his diet further? I appreciate all your help. Thanks

What can I do next?

My daughter had a rash on her lower ab area from Pampers, too. She also gets it from the Target brand. We had to stick with Huggies and Nature babycare to avoid any rashes.

Good Luck!

Both my kids have super sensitive skin. They broke out with Pampers, Huggies, Kirklands, and every other diaper we tried. We did cloth when my son was first born (through a diaper service, which was the same price per week as Pampers) and then we found Seventh Generation, Tushies, and TenderCare diapers (to use for disposables). We also found that the "natural" brands are AWESOME because they're latex free, chlorine free, and have no excess chemicals. They're also a little easier on the environment. I suggest going to 1800diapers.com because they have a GREAT selection for fairly cheap. That's where we buy a lot from. Good luck!

i have always used pampers, as all the others i tried (luvs, huggies and parents choice) all leaked on my son. if you do feel that the diaper is the problem, cloth diapers are great, especially in a city where you could have a diaper service. i am just starting to try to switch over to cloth diapers on my 17 month old son, as they are easier to potty train. they arent as hard to deal with as you would think, and there are many many kinds... at different prices. i highly recommend tiny tush growing greens hemp/cotton blend diaper (hemp is highly absorbant) and motherease air-flow covers. they are rather expensive (16.95 for the diapers) but they work, and they are worth it if you never have to buy disposables again.

i am not going to use cloth all the time, mostly when we are at home... but i highly recommend giving them a shot.

however, it is probably not the diaper. try backing off of whatever solid you just added to his diet, and see if the rash goes away. if it does, be very observant as you give one kind of solid for about a week, and see if any reactions develop. if not, try something new.
babies usually have more sensitive skin, so this could just be a passing thing. use some diaper cream with each diaper change, and try to fold the diaper off of the area to see if a little air flow makes it go away.

sometimes a yeast infection can cause a nice rash on their bottoms since they are usually often moist.

good luck!

My daughter started out in Pampers with no problems but if I was trying to save money or buy something different is when she got a rash. I couldn't diaper swop with her. I had to pick one brand and stick with it. Because we had started out in Pampers we were ok with that brand.

I'd go back to your old brand if possible.

My daughter had diaper rash problems with Pampers because they are scented (I know the Swaddlers are, not sure about the Cruisers). The only disposable diapers we found that don't give her a rash are Huggies Supreme. We use cloth diapers at home as those are the most gentle on her sensitive skin.

Hi L.:
I also had the same problem with Pampers. I used the newborn which didn't give me any problems, but once I moved him into size 1-2 he started to break out in minor rashes. I ended up switching to Huggies and haven't had any problems. I had the same rash issues with Luvs. It never seemed to bother my son, but it bothered me.
It could also be a food issue though too. I would switch one thing at a time. Try monitoring the food and if the problem doesn't go away then switch the diapers.

I would guess that since the rash isn't anywhere else in the diaper area, that it would be the solids that he is eating. Try NOT giving him whatever it was that you introduced him to for a week and see what happens.
