We are always trying to save money and I wondered if Luvs diapers actually work. We use Pampers at night since little one sleeps pretty heavy and use what coupons we can. We get a lot more coupons for Huggies so we use them some during the day even though they don't work as well. Could we use the Luvs in the same way? During the day when he willl be changed often? Or will they blow out like crazy? What are the best cost effective diapers?
We've had good luck with Luvs. But if you're trying to save money AND you have a Sam's card (or know someone who does), the Sam's brand (Smiles) was even more leakproof than Panpers, Luvs, Huggies, etc., for us. We just adopted a son, but we're using Pampers because his skin is chafing and they are the softest. But I think Smiles held better. I used to buy Luvs for my daughter when I couldn't get to Sam's, and they did fine.
Another thing I noticed about leakproof-ness is the shape of the child and the shape of the diaper, so what worked for me might not work for you.

I LOVE the HEB brand. They have a couple different ones that vary slightly in price but all are well worth the money (and definately cheaper than Luvs, Pampers, or Huggies. I used the brand names when my kids were newborn and switched when they got a little older. My favorite HEB ones have Shrek on them. We have never had an issue with leaks. Try out a few different store brands and see what you like best. Good luck and happy saving!

We use Luvs diapers for our 4 mo. old girl & I like them a lot. We have a 3 yr old boy & we used Pampers w/ him-Huggies didn't work but I never tried Luvs w/ him, but they work GREAT for her - can hold a lot! They are much cheaper and I signed up online to get coupons for Luvs & received 2-$2.50 off coupons right away...not bad to get 50 diapers for $4.47 :) I think if you have a SAMS or COSTCO membership you can try those & return them if they don't work; other than that, I would try buying small pckgs until you find one that fits & is affordable. Good luck!!

We found pampers did not work for us at all. We use Huggies brand all the time. Sam's Club has really great prices for diapers. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/search.do?searchtype=sim... they even carry pampers. I never used luvs though. Nor the Members Mark brand of diapers. I did however use the Members Mark brand of formula. It was the same ingredients (and instructions) as the brand name...i did ask pedi before doing that.

Luvs are actually made by the same company as Pampers. I used Luvs with my son and almost never had leaks in three years of using them. When I tried Luvs with my second child, my daughter, we had too many leaks. The same for Huggies and for Pampers Baby Dry. So we are having to buy the Pampers Cruisers and try to get coupons as often as possible. I'd say try a small package of Luvs during the day and see how it goes.

Loved the LUVS brand, and you can usually find good sales on them in your local ads.
We decided to go with Huggies from Costco as our standard because it was so much easier to buy them once/month in bulk than making repeated trips, but penny for penny, I think LUVS cost about the same.

I used Pampers while my son was little, but found once he got to the cruisers I had to find an alternative because neither the cruisers or baby dry fit his butt right and we had many problems with leakage. I tried huggies once because they were given to me and refused to go back to them. So continues trying many differant brands and finally settled with luvs and truly LOVED them. He was able to wear them through the night without any problems and they fit his butt just as I had hoped. I suggest trying them. They are well worth the savings. However I do plan on sticking with Pampers when we have another child until they get a little older and then if we come across the same problem I will probably end up giving luvs a shot again right away.

I used Luvs years ago for my twins and I thought they were really good diapers. I liked that they were priced better than Huggies and Pampers too. Why spend more when you don't have to? Just put the diaper on correctly and there shouldn't be any leaks. We always bought the largest diaper box possible at Walmart.

When both of my girls were small, I used Pampers, Huggies and Luvs. Pampers were my favorite, but the most expensive. I just wasn't a huge fan of Huggies (they leaked). Not in my experience. Pampers is the only way to go (in my opinion). I was given an assortment of diapers, in every brand I know of, at my baby shower. So, I thought I'd use them all... Didn't happen. I would try each brand (other than Pampers) once and throw the rest away. They were all horrible. Huggies and Luvs really annoyed me. Anyway, Pampers is the only diaper that worked for us and the only brand I'll use if I have another child. :)

I have used Luvs and and thought they did a great job for both my boys.
They are the same diaper as "Baby-dry" by pampers.. same company & everything.
I found some tricks with any diapers which help..
*if your little one is still onsie age.. a onsie helps keep the top of the diaper and straps in the proper place - they aren't being rubbed by pants all the time.
*At night time - with any diaper kind - if you take one off and find out it's dry.. USE a new diaper anyway and save the 'dry used' one for a in-house day.
*always 'fluff' out the inner leg leak barriers.. it makes a difference - even at pull-up age.
lastly you may find some diapers work for your child better with either pee or poop.. so you could plan your day accordingly and have some less expensive ones for times of pee only and your premium (i consider luvs premium brand) for nighttime and poop time. of course I do realize we can't be exact on this but you know what I mean I think.
ok..
enough from me.. proabably getting off your main subject of cost.. :)

Luvs are by all means my faves. They run larger so I could use size2 on my size 3 baby for example. And you know, the smaller the size, the more diapers in a box, cost is usually the same for all packages, so it comes out less expensive in a long run. Luvs are VERY soft and thinner than most diapers, they are very durable. I actually just recommended them to my neighbor and she switched to them completely from her warehouse brand because Luvs performed better and came out cheaper per diaper.

It really depends on the shape of you little one's bum! My little guy leaked out of both pampers and huggies no matter what we did. Luvs worked great for us, except we needed scent free because he was getting a rash. Don't know where you live, but Meijer Drybabies were scent free, latex free, and my son didn't leak out of them. They worked the best for us, and they were the least expensive! Just don't be afraid to try store brands, some are awful but we hit the jackpot with ours!

Look for coupons in Sunday's paper. Unless your baby has extremely sensitive skin or a skin condition, Luvs should be just fine. Hope it helps w/your baby and your wallet.

I have twins and I am not loyal to any brand. I prefer Huggies over Pampers but to save money I buy store brand. Luvs are fine for day, I find they are thinner in padding and don't fit as snug. The best brand I have found so far for the money is Parent's Choice. They seem to be padded more and they contain diaper blowouts fine during the day. I also have used them for nighttime without a booster and they work well. I get a big value box of size 3 with 144 diapers for $18.

Way better than anything else out there. Just by chance I used Luvs for the first time this week as we haven't been to Costco for awhile and they seem to work ok. Target brand also works pretty good. But if your child really pees alot at night, I would suggest Costco.

I used Pampers originally when coming home from the hospital with my first baby. I was totally in love with their "wetness strip." As a first time mom, having the strip answer that question "is he wet?" took just that one thing off my mind and I loved them. But, they were pricey...
Once I got the hang of the diapers, we switched to luvs. They're far cheaper and work like a charm! I've used them all the way up to about 18 months or so... They still work, no blow outs or anything, but they gape a bit at the back and give my son a plumbers crack when he's playing at the playground! lol So, I've switched to huggies cuz they have the elasticized back.

I have used Luvs and like them better than Huggies during the day. I use a name brand overnight diaper at night like Huggies or Pampers, but to me Huggies get really huge even if he doesn't pee very much, making crawling and walking more difficult. I used Luvs for months, then found that I really liked Kroger diapers, but only the ones here in Tenn. I used Kroger diapers in Houston and they weren't the same. I also got some hand me down HEB diapers and loved those, but we don't have that store here. I called my cousin asking her what diapers she used because they were my favorite of all of them.

My advice is to just buy the cheapest store brand diapers you can find. None of the big brands are any better than the generics. They just cost more because of all the advertising. If they leak at night, stuff them with toilet paper, or layer in a strip of an old cloth diaper or towel.
The same is true for anything else. If you can get it in a generic version, or a store brand, you're ahead of the game. If you must buy brand names, at least read Consumer Reports for the results of their product testing. You can join their website, and they probably have articles on testing of diapers.

I had great success with Luvs. We started out in the Pampers more expensive brands and moved to Luvs just before my daughter turned a year old. It depends on the shape of your baby...Huggies never worked for us. Neither did any of the store brands as she was always having some sort of allergic reaction--I tried HEB, Wal-Mart, CVS, Target store brands.
However, while Target very often had some good deals on Luvs, I didn't find so many coupons as they are already quite low priced.
Blow outs happen with all diapers. It depends on your baby's particular patterns.

I used Luvs for my first two kids without many leaks, but they didn't work as well with my third, so we use Huggies for her. The best deal I've found without coupons is at Sam's Club; I can get 176 size 4 Huggies diapers for $37.98 (204 size 3, 288 size 1-2). My SIL loves LUVS for her boys. For my kids, they never held enough. I was changing diapers so frequently, and the diaper rash was terrible. I've used Huggies, Target brand, WalMart brand, Sam's Club brand, Luvs, and Pampers. Because of cost and how much they hold and no diaper rash, we go with the diapers from Sam's Club. The membership is $40 annually, but we've counted the cost and with two kids in diapers plus getting wipes there, we had a net savings of well over $150 (compared to buying Huggies at other stores)-and that doesn't include the discounts we got on milk, baby food, other types of food, cleaners, etc.
