We are looking for a vacation spot with things to do for little kids (ages 3 and 1). It is too hot for the beach or Disney. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good travel destination in the southeastern US area?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

I know you think the beach is a bit too hot but on the east coast, there is a constant breeze. I personally enjoy going to St. Augustine. Although your children are pretty young, there is a lot to see and a ton of history there and it is very family friendly. Plenty of indoor and outdoor activities happening there. They have a great schooner ride (can't remember the name of the boat) but even on a hot day, the breeze on the water was fabulous. Hope this helps.

Busch Gardens in Tampa has a great kids area...lots of water and the kids really seem to love it. The pricing for BG is less than that of Disney and our kids really enjoy it. The kids park is fun even for adults! Just a thought!

My kids are the same ages and we travel a few times a year to the Nickelodian family suites hotel in Orlando. Usually we'll do one day at any one of the orlando theme parks and two at the hotel, the pools, waterslides, shows, arcades and character visits generally keep the kids interest while we're there. In addition, sea world just opened up a new waterpark - Aquatica, which has much more for the little ones to do than Adventure Island and is very clean & well kept. they also offer affordable meal options with their pay one price and eat all day wristband. We've been twice since it opened. My only word of caution - get there when the park opens, they fill to capacity in the first two hours and then close the park. We're passport members, if you belong to the Busch passport system, add this park - they open early for members!
