Hello :)
My 10 month old daughter is turning up her nose at baby food. She eats black beans and rice, and the poofy veggie things (sorry I know it is a poor description) as for other foods, we can only get her to eat them on occasion...if she is really hungry. My quetion is-
What should she be eating and how much? Should she still be using a bottle or sippy cups only? She does drink some water out of her sippy ccup but not a lot and I just want to make sure she is getting enough nutrients. Any help would be appreciated! :)
Thanks in advance.

hi N.,
i cant say i am a professional but, my son who is now 4 at that age was the same in some ways...by 9 months he wouldnt drink out of the bottle anymore....so we switched to a sippy cup but, only at meal time. we all know how much liquids can cause a child to be full....so i would suggest cutting out extra liquids maybe...and only give liquid at meal time ect..this may cause the little one to want to eat more and be hungry..that this age with my son he was eating anything and everything. i dont even think he ate much baby food. maybe also try soft people food like macaroni, eggs, oatmeal, bannanas, anything soft that you and i would eat....i think my sons thing was we started feeding him real food he didnt want the non tasting stuff anymore ect....i hope this helps...and your child at this age should be eating 3 meals at least a day as far as i am concerned......but, i am no doctor LOL!!

Hey N.,

Makayla refused to eat jar food at 10 months so we started her on table food. She loved scrambled eggs, pancakes and I used to steam veggies that were easy for her to handle. I think now is the time to start introducing new foods to her, she may like it. She was still on formula so we would put it in a sippy cup at meal time and bottles for a snack in between. Right before bed time we would introduce the sippy cup again with water in it. Of course our pediatrician said that she will eat when she's hungry, don't force her to eat. Sometimes she just eats green things and other days she won't eat dinner. Good luck!

Hi N.,

I have a 10 month old too who mostly wants to eat real food. Until recently he has only had the 2 bottom teeth but just got 4 this week! With his 2 little teeth he has been able to eat the following:

ripe pears or pears from a can
peaches from a can
mandarin oranges from a can
apples if ground up in a blender
either fresh steamed carrots (3-5 min in microwave with a small amount of water) or from a can
canned peas
canned green beans broken up
ripe avacado (very good brain food)
steamed spinach with a little butter added (after the spinach cools I tear apart a small bit of the spinach and roll it into a very tiny bite size ball)
pasta bites (from gerber)
regular ravioli pasta cut into tiny pieces
pancakes
rolls
turkey lunch meat cut into very tiny pieces
meatballs cut into tiny pieces (turkey is healthier than ground beef)
shreadded chicken (only very small pieces and no bones!)
any cheese cut into small pieces (or use shreaded)
yogurt (yo baby or yoplait light)
ham lunch meat cut into very small pieces
mashed potatoes (gerber also makes sweet potatoe mashed potatoes in a small container)
and of course cherrios.

I try to give 2 fruits a day, 2-3 veggies, 1-2 proteins (meat, cheese, or yogurt), and 2-3 carbs but limit the portion size on the carbs. The serving size I give is pretty small but I let him eat until he is full. I have avoided fish, nuts (inc. peanut butter), and eggs but as soon as he turns 1 I plan on trying scrambled eggs and going to whole milk. He still drinks formula from a bottle but hasn't figured out the sippy. I keep trying by giving him the sippy at every meal. One thing to note too is that babies get a lot of their vitamins from formula or breast milk. I hope I gave you some good ideas. Good luck!

My 10 mo old only sips at water, she never drinks much either. I haven't worried since she gets plenty of liquids through nursing. As far as the food goes, she's pretty much eating what we eat because we eat fairly healthy. Most fruits and veggies, a little meat, some bread, and we just started cottage cheese. She's really loosing interest in the mushy baby food and wants to feed herself finger foods, so I just put fresh cooked peas or potatos or something on her plate and let her feed herself. Sometimes I feed her soup or something with a spoon so she won't forget how to use a spoon. Basically, it sounds like our girls are at about the same spot with feeding. Hopefully its normal!
