Seeking Advice on Staying Hydrated

How in the world I'm not drinking enough water is beyond me. My bladder says I'm drinking enough to keep the toilet paper companies in business and keep their stocks growing. =)

Ok, so maybe if I were willing to give up my 1 treasured cup of joe, I'd be that much better off. Let's just say, I'd rather not, and see what I can do to drink enough agua to keep the headaches at bay.

I am drinking about 3L of water daily. My body tells me when I'm dehydrated by headaches.

Update: so I'm not ALWAYS headachy. Just get them from time to time. Mild headaches about twice a week. I only know I am drinking 3L of water when I actually start the day with a headache & so I am uber conscious to drink loads of water.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and concern so far! I really & truly appreciate it!!!

Any and all advice and even potentially common sense to do's would be appreciated!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Wow... I don't know if I missed an earlier post, you might have talked about this before and I just don't know it.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? 3L of water is a LOT of water every day. 1 cup of coffee shouldn't be a problem.

Please, my suggestion is to call your doctor and let him know what's going on. There may be a different issue completely unrelated to hydration.

Wishing the best for you...

Hi K.,
I was actually about to respond to antoher mother when I stumbled upon your request and HAD to respond. A couple of months ago, I was watching the Discovery Chanel, I can't remember what the show was called, but it was about a girl that had the same condition you do and turned out one of her organs was shutting down and the only way it kept working was because of the water she was drinking, if she would have stopped drinking all the water her body was requiring, she would have died within weeks. GO TO THE DOCTOR. GET IT CHECKED OUT. It could be life threating.

Hey I used crytsal light or something like that because it is water based and no sugars and just a few calories. So your doctor will not be one your case about weight.

Also I got headaches alot being preg. as well and it was alittle to do with blood presure high or low will effect a headache, also my kiddos when in my belly would hit certain nerves that would cause headaches or backaches too.

Try a little more caff. in you diet durning the day and do not stress over things because it could be that too and you may not know it.

If you are at all worried about it please go to the doctor if it is just to make sure do not go to long because you would not want anything bad to happen.

Hey. Have you tried using crstal light or Special k Mixes in your water? I drink nothing but water and I can tell you get does get boring. I use special k mix the make a pink lemonade and a tea just mix with 20 oz of water 2 a day would get you 40 oz of h20 and then do h20 inbetween them and if you do 80oz of water daily that should keep you well hydrated and less hungry. love Kimme

I get headached when I don't eat enough red meat. I don't know if it's the iron or protien, but if I eat enough meat they go away.

If you are getting enough water, maybe it is something else. Have you tried having some coffee when you have a headache? Caffeine helps (most headache medicines containg caffeine).

If it isn't something that goes away with the caffeine or a tylenol, I would go have my blood pressure checked just to be sure. I had preeclampsia during my 3rd pregnancy and it can happen at any time. (not saying you have it, but headaches were and are a big thing for me when my blood pressure rises)

Good luck!

If I were you, I'd look elsewhere for a cause to my headaches. They just may be pregnancy related hormone induced headaches. You are supposed to drink 64 oz. of water a day and 3 liters is 1 and 1/2 times that or 32 oz.(1 ltr.) extra. I certainly wouldn't try for more water without checking your electrolyte balance. Have you asked your doc at your prenatal checkups? I'm sure a Tylenol would be fine to take for the headache and not interfer at all in the pregnancy.
I've been a clincial laboratory scientist for 40 years and I was a childbirth educator for 5 years. I also live in Bryan.

Water does not hydrate you. If you think you are not hydrated properly try drinking gatoraid.

I know this is going to sound weird but

Try building a free acct in something like www.slim-fast.com

Keep track of the water to take in, the tea, soda, milk, foods, carbs, veggies, starches and so forth.

It might not be the water intake - it might the lack of other nutrients and you just are not away of it until you keep accurate track ov everything for a while and then see it in black and white.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.
