Hello ladies,
I am taking care of my dad (56) who had brain surgery to remove a tumor only 2 weeks ago. His recovery has been very hard on him. He has no energy and is experiencing muscle pain, (probably from sitting down for two weeks)! Anyway, he is very bored and is tired of watching tv. Do you have any suggestions on what he could do besides take walks outside? He is in desperate need of reading glasses, so only books with large print would be an option...(but he doesn't seem interested in that). Please help! I have a 2 and 3 year old and am very busy. Need help to keep my dad occupied! :-)

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Is there anything he could do to make your life easier and make him feel useful at the same time? Folding towels, writing out checks for your monthly bills, making a few phone calls to schedule appointments for you, write a thank you note, read your children a few books-lots of children's books have large print, repair some small items like children's toys(my kids always have a few things in need of glueing back together, playing games with your kids-Candy Land is easy to master for children and there is nothing to read. Hope this helps! I hope he has a speedy recovery and I'm sure he knows how blessed he is to have you!

Hi K.,

How about books on tape, from the library? You might also ask the hospital therapists to recommend some activities and resources.

Your father is very fortunate to have such an attentive daughter.

All the best,

I don't know how much of an issue money is but a Wii game system would be great all around. It would stimulate his mind and body-he could only do as much physical activity as he felt comfortable with and he would probably really enjoy it. They even have fishing, disk shooting, pool etc. there are all kinds of neat games. If money is an issue perhaps see about enrolling him in some type of day class maybe...HTH

Hi K.,

My heart goes out to you and your father. He is very fortunate to have a wonderful daughter like you! A friend of mine is a massage therapist and studies herbs. His grandmother had surgery on her breasts to remove some lymph nodes in May. Since the surgery, she has been in a lot of pain. He decided to give her a fast acting adaptogen spray specific for aches and pain. In less than one week her pain was totally gone. The website to learn more about the Tunguska Mist Relieve and other adaptogen spray formulas to reduce the damaging effects of stress in the body is www.vitalhealth.tblast.com and the product is only $25. The adaptogen formulas all help boost energy and stamina, improve your immune system, increase mental clarity and focus, and enhance physical performance. Because they are intra-oral sprays, the nutrients are delivered immediately into the bloodstream. Your dad can start to feel good fast.

My suggestions on activities that will help stimulate his brain include: jigsaw puzzles, chess, cards, Wii or other video games online. Also, you may want to check your local library for books on tape. What does he enjoy? Maybe he can learn a new language, or simply play flashcards with the kiddos. Anything creative like painting, or other crafts would be fun for him to do with the kids, as well.

Good luck and God Bless:)

How about solitaire (computerized or the old fashioned way) or Sudoku puzzles? Maybe taking everyone to a park and he could do the puzzles or cards while your kids play.??? Good luck.
