I live in a 3300 sq foot house with a normal size back yard - not oversized. Part of our fence blew down last week with all of the wind. Since the fence is so old we are just going to replace it. Got a quote today with steel poles, cedar wood and double stacked. Also included is 2 gates. Just wondering......Our quote was $5600 including the staining and 10 year warranty. We just don't have time to get quotes. Thanks for all of your help!

We received 2 bids on the replacement of 80 feet of fence including steel poles and 8 foot pickets. Both bids were right at $2000. My dad priced out how much he could do it for and said around $1200 I think. So about 40% of the bid amount was labor. HTH!!

We recently had several sections of fence fall down due to crappy wood posts, and had them replaced with metal posts instead. I called several fence companies, and ended up going with a highly recommended company called Diamond B Fence & Concrete in Ft. Worth ###-###-####. They did a GREAT job at a much better price, than any other quote that I had gotten. I highly recommend this company!

When we lived at our 1st house it was 1500 sq ft but we had a very big back yard. We replaced the privacy fence but my husband & his brother did it themselves. We bought the panels at Home Depot & I want to say that they were about $80 a panel. For the poles, panels, cement & all the other supplies I think it ran us about $1400.00. So $5600 is very high at least to me. You have to measure how many feet your back yard is. Keep in mind a panel is 6 ft. Do the math & you can figure out how many panels you need. I bet you could find a handy man to do it for you if your husband isnt inclined to do it himself. It is hard work & they sweated their butts off so I wouldnt blame him if he didnt want to do it. We had dogs so we had to replace the fence & had to do it fast. I bet you could call Home Depot or Lowes & they could help you over the phone with some good basic info or at least an estimate. Check the back of classified of star telegram where they have the handyman ads & Im sure you could find someone to do it for you. These days as much as people need work Im sure you could find someone!

measure the area, call Lowes and Home Depot, they can give an estimate over the phone. Also ask for various options. I had a 1700 sf house with an average size yard and to just do HALF the fence with no warranty etc was $2000! So this sounds like a pretty good deal!

Another option, we have a handy man who does all sorts of jobs around our house. You buy the supplies from home depot and then u pay him and his cousin for the labor. He will come out and quote the job. He just finished replacing our deck and wood fence so u could come by and take a look if u like. Its a lot cheaper than a contractor and u dont have to do the work.

If your interested let me know and i will send u his info.

I suggest looking on Angie's List. www.angieslist.com There is a $50 (I think) membership charge, but it's good for a year and full of valuable info. It's a list of reviews of service companies, by the people who hired them! No companies pay for ads, so it's completely the experiences of the customers. Reviews of the quality of work, prices, timliness, respect for your property, etc. Exactly the kind of thing you want to know when you're looking for work such as yours. (There's even a medical section now, for choosing a doctor or hospital!) I love Angie's List, have used it often. Saved me money several times.

Hi K.,

Sounds pretty high but you didn't mention how many ft. you have. Call and get some quotes via email or by phone. Some companies are pushy and want to come out but you can find some that will still do it over the phone or email. I would stay away from angieslist.....it's pretty much craigslist except you have to pay and theres no need to "pay" money to get a decent contractor when theres good ones out there.
Always get more estimates just to compare everyones prices. Take care

I would call Buzz Fence ____@____.com did my fence, and I am more than satisfied. Tell them the urgency. I would have them quote it without the stain. This is something you can easily do yourself later. You can purchase the supplies at Home Depot. Also you need to check any contractors out at the BBB @

Good Luck.
