Hello. I just started work again and opted for in home care for my five month old daughter. I had a hard time finding someone and while I am at work, my concern is always whether the nanny is taking care of my daughter in a safe manner and how secure my home is with this person. I am thinking about putting a security camera (hidden). Does anyone have any suggestions for an affordable security system? I need some suggestions and anyone feel the same and how do they deal with this issue...Thanks :)

What can I do next?

You should consider a live-in au pair with AuPairCare. You won't have to worry about security at all. This company is regulated by the Department of State and the international au pair have to pay to be in the program. I have never heard of anyone worrying about their property being stolen. The children are in good hands and knowing that the au pairs go through an extensive background check will ease your mind.

I'm with the moms who said to inform the nanny before you start filming her. And don't make it sound like you already don't trust her. Just make her aware that you like to know how she's caring for your baby so that you can see what kind of routine she has when you're at work and what things work or not. You can say that you miss the baby and you'd like to be able to check in from time to time without having to call.
Many services are available that let you check your cam from your computer.
Don't go overboard with worry though. And try not to make a big issue out of little things you notice that you may do differently yourself. You don't want to drive the nanny to quit because of being paranoid that she's not perfect enough for you.
Congrats on your baby!

If you get cameras, it's best to tell the Nanny you have them. I'm not sure what the legal issues are if something were to be taped and she didn't know she was being filmed, but the reason I think it's better to let them know is because which would you rather have happen:

Watch the secret video and find out you were being stolen from or your child is being harmed or neglected...

or...

Feel a better sense of security knowing that she KNOWS she is being watched so you are being proactive because she won't try to do anything sneaky because she knows she won't get away with it

I am SO GLAD we put cameras!
my husband did a little research and just bought webcams and even a wireless one that works in the dark for hte baby's room. THANK GOD my baby was not harmed but after about 7 months of caring for my son, she STOLE FROM US.

so I say to definitely get cameras!

i have no suggestions but good for you on taking precautions. i would not let her know they are there. it is your home and as long the camera is not in the bathroom or anywhere else she would expect privacy you have every right.(i am not a judge or lawyer though)
