Another option is geckos (sp?) you can buy them at petsmart or other pet stores, the geckos keep the scorpions away. Make sure to research it a little more, you have to get the right amount of them for the size of your yard and you have to put them out at the right time of the year (I think october) so that they will make your yard home.
also, never leave laundry on the floors, they love dark damp places to hide, especially never leave wet towels on the floor.
Good luck!

We just moved into a new home and have them. This is the first time we've ever had to deal with them. It's a little scary since we have a 15 month old. However, there is a store at Gilbert & Southern (in the same complex as Dollar Tree and Harbor Freights) called Bug & Weed Mart. The guy there is extremely knowledgeable and really took the time to find out about our house and our needs so he could recommend the best way to prevent them from getting in the house. There are many options, spraying, sealing your home, using Diatomaceous Earth etc...

The biggest thing to do is to eliminate their food source. You do that and there's no reason for them to be there. So, if you're not regularly spraying your home for bugs, you need to. Also, if your neighbors are lax in doing this that can also contribute to the problem. The guy told us that if we do everything he said, we should never find one in the house. He also said that many professional pest control companies don’t do a thorough enough job (they should be spending a minimum of an hour and a half to properly spray a home). The stuff he recommended for us is a little pricy but we do it ourselves and we can’t really put a price on safely for our little one. Plus, if we paid a company to come out monthly, the cost would be about the same or more. Hopefully that helps!

Hi C.!
I've lived in Arizona since 1977 and never had a problem until we moved into our current house in 1999. Needless to say, I HATE bugs - but especially scorpions!
We've used a couple of companies in the past to treat our home, but now we have a little dog and the other companies were both using a dusting method around all the doors and windows which I do not want my little guy exposed to. So we're now using Ky-Ko Pest Prevention ###-###-####. They have several methods depending on what your house really needs, including a service to "seal" the home. I'm not using the home sealing because as long as they come out regularly we don't have a problem. I like them because they treated the inside of the house on the first visit, but only in the cracks & crevices so it was safe for kids and pets. Then they just do the outside every month or every other month.

Also, since our area (east mesa) seems to have a big scorpion problem, All of our neighbors get their homes treated - but each one of us uses a different company. We haven't compared notes this year to see who is happier with their service, but 4 out of 5 houses in our cul-de-sac have been treated in the last 7 days! I think the weather change has really made all the bugs come out, and the other bugs are the food source for scorpions.

Hope you get rid of them! They give me the creeps!

Hi C.,
I have found that the sticky traps called Victor the Cat work really well...you place them by the openings of all your outside doors and windows and as the scorpions and bugs come in they crawl through them and get stuck. No poison and nothing to hurt your children and/or pets. I hope this helps.

Hi! We have a major problem with them. Everyone says that exterminating doesn't help but in my opinion it does help just not as much as I wish it did. Usually after the bug guys comes we see a reduced amount for a few weeks and the ones we find are dead or nearly dead. But they always come back. The best way to get rid of them is go out with a black light regularly and just pick them off one by one before they have a chance to have babies or get in your house. Good luck!

I don't know if there is any way to get rid of them other than to have professionals do it. I use Arizona's Best Choice Pest & Termite Services and it's cheap and works great. We didn't have scorpions, but we had some black widows and I feel so much better after hiring them because it killed those plus all the other pests that I didn't know we had! Anyway, I think each person gives a different price and I live out in Maricopa, but I have a two story house with a huge backyard and we pay $34 a month or $54 every two months. My friends with a one story house and a smaller yard pay about $25 per month I believe. It is so worth it. I don't know where you live, but they do the whole valley pretty much and Maricopa and Casa Grande. Their valleywide number is ###-###-#### and the Casa Grande number is ###-###-####. If you do call them tell them you heard about them from S. Vineyard.

I second the Bug and Weed Mart. That place is great. We bought the same stuff the bug companies use to spray the house for $70 but it will last us 2 years if we spray monthly. The only other thing we needed was a bug sprayer which I bought at Home Depot for $15. So for $85, you will be set for 2 years. A bug service would cost you around $700 or more for 2 years worth of coverage.

I have also heard that getting a cat will solve a scorpion problem. Apparently they are immune to the sting and they eat them. Good luck!
