Science Fair Projects

Hi Ladies,

I have three boys to assist with science fair projects. Do you happen to have any ideas? My middle child wants to consider a project that is about the rate fruit rots or if it does with different items used to help keep it fresh ex: salt, sugar...you get the idea, a sliced apple in different jars.

My oldest child wants to make rock candy (I think he really wants to eat it). The youngest looked in a book and wants to mix vinegar and yeast to see if a balloon raises. They found these in a book and feel no one else is going to do them.

I wanted to see if any of you had any ideas, I have looked online at some websites but not sure about some of the ideas. Sometimes talking to someone I have got better ideas on projects that aren't always listed anywhere. The boys are all in elementary so prjects can be fairly simple. Thanks

What can I do next?

Our son went to the State Science Fair with his idea of how a hydroplane works. That was many years ago, so my memory may not serve me right, but I am pretty sure it was a hydroplane. He had so much fun doing his research, and the other kids in his class enjoyed learning from his project. I think he was in 4th grade at the time. He is in college, now, working on a Master of Electrical Engineering degree.

My daughter did the balloon experiment last year. Your middle child will have fun with this one. We tested about 15 or so different measurements.

A friends child tested how well jello congeals with different types of fruit in it.

Her older brother tested the porousness of different types of soil and her younger brother tested whether or not and ice cube forms faster with hot or cold water and how long it took.

Another one might be to see how much yeast in a bread dough would it take to make the dough explode. My 5th grader is going to do this one this year for her project.

Good Luck

I can tell you from our experience the judges mark down projects the kids get out of books. They prefer projects the kids come up with on their own.

How about comparing vitamin supplement brands to see which brand absorbs more completely in water and the amount of time it takes to do so? I sell Shaklee brand supplements and know there would be no comparison with Shaklee brand because it would win everytime which means you get all the vitamins absorbed in your body as other brands would not and therefore you would reap the benefits completely. You can go to Shaklee.com to learn more about these pure, natural, and science-based products. The Olympic teams use Shaklee, etc, etc. Anyway if you go this route and need to order Shaklee's multivitamin which is called VitaLea, you can order under my distributor # of WF01389 or if you have any questions you may email me at ____@____.com ...I'm in the middle of updating my personal website or I would send you there.....And good luck with your projects....A.
