School for Daughter Who Turns 3 After School Enrollment Cut-off

My daughter turns 3 September 4. Most schools require students turn 3, 4, 5 before September 1. I don't want her to be behind just because she's 3 days shy of the cut-off. Anyone know of schools that deviation from this rule in the Milwaukee or Waukesha County area?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their insight. I got her into K-3 at a Lutheran school. School starts at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. It is a little out of the way but it's worth it. It has worked very well thus far.

This isn't really an answer to your question, but I just wanted to ask why you think she'll be "behind"? You know your daughter best, of course, but since it's gotten fairly common to hold children back that are born in August (and sometimes even July and June), she would almost for sure be much younger than most children in her class. Conversely, if you send her the year she is "supposed to" go, she probably won't be the oldest.

I hope this answer helps. Try a Headstart Program they are great and look at involving the family also. One of Milwaukee's Providers is SDC, the social developement commission. You should be able to find their site locations on-line.

They will enroll the child so that they can attend as soon as they turn 3.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Hi
I live in Brookfield and my son turns 5 on Sept. 2nd !! So this is my nightmare also. Brookfield is one of the very few districts that don't have have 4k so of course I wanted to get him into 5K but rules are rules with the school board and one day is HUGE for them. He would have had to go through all the testing which I was told by Rue McCellan (the school pych) that he DOES need to know how to read to get into 5K, since he is an early entrance (yes early entrance even by one day) Not exactly sure what he would learn in school if he already needed to know how to read and he needed to know early math. All I kept hearing is "he is a boy and boys should ALWAYS be held back" blah blah blah, like I don't know my own child and what his needs might be or I was blamed for wanting to send him because I want to use 5K as a "babysitter". The trend parents have started on 'holding" their kids back is making it hard for us parents that have children who don't need to be held back. My son is super social and smart (not a genius just smart). I started to teach him reading and math skills last spring to get ready for the test and thought this is stupid, why am I doing what the teacher should be doing. In the end we decided to send him to Preschool another year in their "4K" program which is costing us over $3,000 but we are finding ways to save money to pay for it. Atleast I know that at preschool the money is being spent wisely and he will learn more their in a 12 kid classroom then in school with 25 kids in a class. I loved his teacher last year and the director for the preschool is great. If you want to know which preschool, send me a message.
I feel sorry for the 5K teacher when he goes because I will be holding them to super high standards. I do not expect a lot of coloring or any baby projects in 5K at all! Since he was SO immature and not ready for 5K when he is 5, they must make it tough and I BETTER see it! I will make a stink. So in the end I can't imagine you will get her in early. You can try, although probably too late for the testing. You can wait or send her to preschool a couple days a week.
I know how you feel I was the oldest in my class (Oct birthday) and I was jealous that 17 year olds were off to college starting their life when I was older and always felt behind. I brought this up to the teachers/admins and they all thought I was crazy for ever "feeling" behind. They just don't get it. I guess there are parents in NY holding their kids balk unitl they are 7 so their kids will be the smartest in the class because they are the oldest. What a joke this all has become.
Good luck on whatever you do,
M.

You can have her tested to see if she would be able to go now or wait a year longer! I live in Franklin and that's what they told me!Call the school and ask!

You an ask for an exception. Well, you may need to beg! But, they test her and make the decision based on that.
