I have had great luck with using "cheaprooms.com" and them Google satellite mapping them...you can check out the area that way...and the website had great pictures & I'd super easy to use.

Sorry, that's all I've got....haven't been to SLC since I was a teenager!

My friend used to work at Homewood Suites, and it was a decent clean place. It was located in Murray Utah which is about 15 min from downtown. Murray is a nice part of town and is near tons of stores, restaurants, close access to the freeway.
Are you taking kids?
I always hear good things about Embassy Suites. Seems to be the place that local couples go to for a romantic night out.
I will look online real quick for more suggestions. I live in SLC.

I have a recommendation for Park City. It's about a 1/2 an hour away. Beautiful place to go this time of year.

The New Park Hotel. It's about 4 years old and is modern and beautiful.

If you don't end up staying in Park City, be sure to visit. There is so much to do in summer (more than winter). Go on an alpine slide and visit Main St. Super cute.

It's been awhile since I've stayed in a hotel in SLC (have family there). You should be able to stay anywhere for under $150, just did an Expedia search and found lots of nice places for under $100. There are lots of places near the airport that are good. Downtown has them all -- Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, etc. Little America is supposed to be good and The Perry Hotel gets good ratings (it's old with lots of character). If you go outside downtown, go east or south. The part of town to avoid is northwest of downtown (excluding the airport). I'd do a search and pay attention to the ratings. Oh, Park City is great and you should visit, but it is a ways outside SLC, depends on how far you want to drive.
