Glad to hear you are happy with the results. My SIL uses IUD and swears by it. She has the 5 year one. Surgery, for woman, is a lot more involved than for the man but we know how they are when it comes to that... :)

Before doing the tubes tied, u may want to research and look into the ESSURE procedure. Essure.com will give u all the info and a number to call for a doc near u, that does the procedure. They will give a full consultation and never force u into doing it...in fact they ask many questions to make sure u want to no longer have children. They use twilight sedation as opposed to anesthesia, and there is no cutting .. i got to the office at 6, taken in at 7, was sitting in chair by 730 and left at 9...best idea in the world..and i highly recommend it to anyone. Research it though and make sure its right for u.

I am a mom of 3.... I have an 18 1/2 yo, 17 1/2 yo and a 3 yo. My 3 yo came unexpectedly, after using the pill for 13 years. I have tried the IUD and it was horrible. I had horrible cramps and heavy, and I mean HEAVY bleeding. I had it removed. My children are a blessing.. However, If you do NOT want children. Having your tubes tied isnt that bad. I had them tied after my 3yo was born while still in the hospital... they give you a spinal and in they go. I was able to go home the next day. Since you arent having a baby, check with your doctor as if it is day surgery. I am thinking it is only day surgery. Technology today is fantastic. 3yrs into my tubes tied, i dont have bad cramping, i have a normal (for me) period. So, I certainly dont regret it. IUD was not for me. and you still can get preg. on the pill or using other forms...... You can still get preg on an IUD... it would be a tubal preg. Not good !! No birth control is 100% except for abstinence and tubal/visectemy. Good luck

I just had my tubes tied 6 weeks ago but it was after my c-section for my daughter. The proceedure iteself added no more extra pain other than some temporary right side pain (about the mid-abdomen). That disappeared within a day or two. I had mine done at Central Dupage and they were awesome!

I am a mom of 3 and don't want anymore either. We use other preventive methods. I would never get my tubes tied and the reason is that i've had many of woman that I know have had it done and its not worth it. They say if they had to go back in time that is one thing they would of never done. They have really bad cramps and stomache pains,when they have a period its a heavy flow and a lot of clots.Its surgery to have your tubes cut. There are so many other options that won't give you pain and will prevent a pregnancy. So if you don't want anymore children use other methods or have your husband go get fixed. He would be in and out of the office in no time and no time needed out of work. Good luck with your decision.

I got my tubes tied. I know that some people told me that it didn't hurt. I am not trying to scare you, but for me it was worse than having a child. The Dr. told me that I would have it done on Friday and would be back to work on Monday. At that time I was a clerk at a gasstation. He said that I would come in and then be able to go home the same day. Which I did but I had to stay 4 hours longer than they thought. When they told me to get up and walk around I passed out. Even after having both of my kids I was up and walking around with in 2 hours, even the time I had stitches. I didn't return to work for a week after I got my tubes tied and then I could only work about 4 hours at a time for another week. Which when I had my kids I was back to work with in two weeks. The Dr. gave me I think percasets or some pink pill for the pain. All that did was knock me out. I couldn't even take care of my kids until Monday. I still hurt for about 3-4 weeks. I think the procedure only lasted 1-2 hours. I should let you know that it may have been harder on me because I didn't get it done until my second child was 4 months old. I do want to tell you that an earlier post mention something about cramps and heavy bleeding. I did have the same problems after I got my tubes tied and had to be put on birth control to control the cramp and bleeding. I do wish that I would have had more options. I told my dr. that I didn't want any more kids and he said to get my tubes tied. I heard that it is easier on the man to be fixed than the women. Just a thought.

But I do know that some people do ok with it. One of my friends had it done and she felt fine with in a week. I would call your Dr. and ask where they recommend. I do hope that it is easy for you like it is for a lot of women. Good Luck!

I recommend Mirena IUD. It's awesome. I've had it for 6 months now - and have had NO problems.

It is pretty invasive for a women to get fixed, major surgery. For a man it is an office visit, home the same day. If he won't step up then I would get an iud. Have him ask around chances are there are lots of guys he works with or knows that has had it done.

Have you considered an IUD rather than actually going through major surgery? I have the ParaGard and it is good for 10 years. No hormones. I absolutely love it.

Has your husband considered a vasectomy. It is much less invasive than a tubal ligation. It's an office proceedure, recovery time is minimal(days), and it's much less expensive.

I had my tubes tied 15 years ago and it was minor out patient surgery then. I had no problems after it and was up and moving around and taking care of my 2yr old and 6 month old the next day. I am sure things have changed and it is even easier now. I would check with your doctor. I am very happy with my decision.
