Rosacea After Baby

Hi Moms- I am desperate for a solution. I was diagnosed with Rosacea, and given Metrogel to use. I haven't noticed an improvement, it's been a month. I am looking for any kind of remedy, or dietary advice. When I look on the web the information is overwhelming and conflicting. I have seen some literature on the connection between Rosacea and aspartame, so I am trying to quit drinking diet cokes (that is my only vice!). Has anyone else found success with eliminating asparatame or any other item from diet, to help manage Rosacea? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your responses. It has been so frustrating, but you will be happy to know that I have seen some improvement over the last 2 days, and you will never believe why I think there is improvement.
I don't smoke, drink, nothing, but my vice for the last few years in diet coke. I was researching online, and found a trend of linking aspartame to rosacea. I quiet drinking dc 4 days ago, and I have already noticed a dramatic improvement. I have known how terrible dc is for me, but it took this for me to really quit, it hasn't been easy, I really love drinking one in the morning. (I have had a few sips of one in the morning, to help me "ween')
I also went to the natural foods store (sunflower shop-camp bowie) and they suggested my taking Primrose Oil once a day (awesome for skin), digestive enzymes with my meals (as diet coke aids in too much acid in the gut), and a good daily vitamin. I am also washing my skin with a presciption wash(Ovace) and using metrogel at night. I am really hopefull this combo of stuff will do the trick, and also, advance my health at the same time. I know one thing is for sure, the antibiotics alone will not solve it, I believe it's dietary, etc.

My friend took MonaVie and it completely cleared it up. If you want to know more, I'm happy to tell you more.

My mom had horrible rosacea for years in her 50s. She was put on low dose antibiotic to "cure" it--didn't help at all. Last fall she went to a doc who told her to start taking turmeric extract; it supposedly works as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It's available at Walgreens or health food stores. Her rosacea started to improve and cleared within a couple of weeks. I'd check with your doc just to make sure it wouldn't hurt you, but my mom's a believer! Good luck.

I am not an expert but Paula Begoun has an excellent website on skincare, including how to take care of rosacea...www.cosmeticscop.com or www.beautypedia.com

From what I know from family members that have it --
-- use tepid/cool/warm water for bathing/washing
-- protect skin from extreme cold or heat outdoors
-- plenty of water for drinking
-- gentle cleansers (Cetaphil)
-- non chemical and non fragranced sunblock/foundation

I'm in the exact same boat. It's horrible, isn't it?? Are you always getting the comments about being in the sun?!! ugh!
I just visited my doctor and she too suggested Metrogel, which I had previously tried, and like you it did not work for me.
There is an antibiotic, but you are not able to take it while pregnant or breastfeeding. It's takes a while for it to work and it's a life-long thing.
There is also laser thereapy if it's not too bad. I went to the Aestician at BentTree family medical (where my PCP is located) and she said that I would need a minimum of 5 treatments, it would be painful, and not guaranteed to work. Each treatment for my "mask" area - mainly my nose and a very small area that butterflies out onto my cheeks from my nose - would be $150. To me, it's almost worth it because I'm so embarrased to see myself in pictures. But I just can't get over the "no guarantee" part yet. I may go to a couple more dermatologists and see if there are any other options.
She said to stay out of the sun (obviously), use at least SPF 50 on whichever part of your face is affected, NEVER allow anyone to microderm abrasion your face, and do NOT scrub.

Good luck, and if you find anything else out let me know!!

K.,
Not sure about rosacea, but I found a great lotion for my eczema that is not a steroid and doesn't contain any harmful chemicals. After 5 years on a steroid for eczema, I now only use this lotion and it is awesome! You have to order it, so let me know if you're interested. It is supposed to work for rosacea too.
