I have also developed rosacea in the last few years. When I have particularly bad bouts of it, I use a creme (metro gel) that my dermatologist prescribed. But, I have to say, I have been very happy with M. Kay products in recent years - its one of the only product lines that my skin does well with. I can't use some of the stuff - I had a reaction to one of the eye cremes, but overall it's really gentle for my facial skin.

Hi M. - I have rosacea and have had it since I was in my late 20s. The only cream I have ever used is a prescription cream. Right now I am using a generic brand called Metrozinadole (I'm pretty sure that's the spelling!!) that I get through prescription from my PCP. I put a thin layer on my cheeks morning and night when my face is clean. I still do get red when I drink wine, I'm really warm, or I'm very excited about something! It's annoying but the cream keeps the little red dots from coming out. Ask your doctor about it, I'm sure you can get a prescription too. Good luck!

I have Rosacea too, and I have been using an ointment that my dermatologist prescribed called Metrogel. If your insurance doesn't cover it, it can be expensive, but you only use about a pea-sized amount each day, so it lasts a long time.
I wasn't being very careful about my diet, and drinking more caffeine and red wine than I should, so that aggravated it. Now I have a "stronger" ointment to use called Finacea.
Both work really well. but also what works the best for me is to avoid those foods that aggravate it.
My first advice is to see a dermatologist.Good luck.

ReversAge products from Reliv International do so much to repair the skin and get it to the proper ph so it can regenerate. A little goes a long way so the cost is not bad especially since it works! My skin has never been better. They are a nutrition company, not a cosmetics company, so they really work very hard at the science of healing from inside and from outside. 90% of the companies who want to sell them ingredients are actually rejected - they only use the top suppliers, and their quality control is unmatched. I know dozens of people who have toured the plant - it's absolutely pristine! I'd be happy to give you more info.

Hi M. -
As a lot of people who also suffer from the Rosacea have told you... the best is first to see a dermatologist, which most likely he will prescribe the Metrogel or I use the Metrocream. For me, the Metrogel made my face too stiff feeling, and the cream feels better on my face which tends to be very dry.

As for a facial cream. I currently use the Arbonne RE9 daily moisturizer, but have also had success with the Oil of Olay, which is what my doctor actually recommended (I personally just prefer the RE9). The most important thing is to find a cream that feels good to you. One thing that I have found is that the oil of olay serum (which Arbonne makes too, but Oil of Olay is cheaper.. I actually use the Target knock off) is great for under the facial lotions.

Do not use any astringents or any harsh scrubs with any nut shells etc. The scrubs should be extremly gentle as to not to flare up the rosacea. Also, any of those facial transforming lifts....DO NOT USE! those will really cause some horrible redness. anything that has a little, may cause some redness notes in the directions, dont use!! for a person with Rosacea, it will make your face Purple!!!

Also, when I was first diagnosed.. they also put me on an antibiotic to help with the god awful bumps! now it is just the contstant flushing. Unfortunatley for me, I am addicted to coffee so that can sometimes flare it up. But soy sauce is my big kicker!!

Good luck.

I have rosacea too and have for years. It had been undiagnosed for years when finally, my cousin-in-law (??) who is a dermatologist mentioned it to me when he was over for dinner! It was really bad at the time (partly from being undiagnosed for so long and partly because I drank wine and coffee with dinner) and he prescribed Metrogel and Doxycycline. It was like a miracle! I couldn't believe how much better it got. I had resigned myself to looking that way for the rest of my life.

I use the Metrogel daily to keep it under control, but I have flair ups often. When they occur, I take the Doxycycline again and it clears it up. I was told, by my cousin, that virtually everything makes Rosacea worse. Alcohol, caffeine, extreme hot or extreme cold, wind, sun exposure, drinking extremely hot or cold beverages, stress... There's not a lot left that's safe :o\ I will say, I've found that mine reacts the most to sun exposure and stress (including lack of sleep and illness.) I NEVER go in the sun without sunscreen on my face. And I use the highest SPF I can find. However, my face is extremely sensitive to chemicals. I have found that Neutragena UVA/UVB Sunblock works best and doesn't irritate my skin. It's sometimes hard to find. Walgreen's usually has it (if I haven't been there recently and purchased their entire stock! lol) I like the oil-free version better, but it's harder to find and both are good. For years I only wore foundation for special occasions and paid a high price when I did. I found, through much trial and error that my face likes Clinique's Super Balanced make-up. I can wear it every day with no adverse reactions. For moisturizer I have tried many things and Cetaphil is the only thing that doesn't irritate my skin. I'd like to point out that only the skin on my face is sensitive. I can do anything to the rest of my body and it's fine. But my face is incredibly sensitive and only started being that way about the time the rosacea started.

Stress and sun exposure cause the worst reactions for me. It lasts for days and sometimes weeks and includes the lovely "acne". All the other things (alcohol, wind, hot and cold beverages, etc.) cause a temporary reaction -- "just" the redness -- usually subsiding within 12 hours after the reaction.

I highly recommend you see a dermatologist. My friend was diagnosed with Rosacea, but not given any medication for it. I loaned her some of my Metrogel and she was amazed. She felt relief immediately. A dermatologist can advise you on products that are safe to use as well as give you prescriptions to help.

I'd also feel I should mention my brother. He was also diagnosed with Rosacea. and really doesn't care to manage it much. He doesn't use the medication and he's very athletic, in the sun constantly and NEVER uses sunscreen. He drinks a fair amount of alcohol as well. I have watched his worsen in a very short period of time. His face is almost purple and he has many broken blood vessels and his nose is starting to become bulbous (think WC Fields).

It's kind of annoying to have to, but this can be managed. Good luck to you!

Hi M.
I have a product from a wonderful company that will help you. I am an Independent Consultant for Arbonne International whose products are made mineral oil, chemical, and dye free. They also have no parabens or PABA. I have 2 clients now who have been using these products for almost a year and have had tremendous results with their rosacea. The problem with creams is they are made with chemicals which irritate your skin more. Ilove to share these products and help people see results that they are looking for. If you would like to try a sample for 3-4 days I would be happy to help you out.
You can contact by email at ____@____.com forward to hearing from you

My friend had rosacea all her life and was told that there was nothing they could do for her.
She started taking Nutritional supplements and within months had great relief from that condition. She now says she is the best Saturday lady you've ever seen-because she can now wear makeup-and does so on Saturdays Too.

Have you tried using the Arbonne skin care products? They are botanically based, hypo-allergenic, and dermotologists tested. The Re9 works great with Rosacea, and adjusts to your skin type. Here's the URL to check out the products. http://www.arbonne.com/products/anti-aging/nutriminc/

I can send you a sample if you'd like to try it.

Hi M., I have the same thing. Mine is around the nose and upper cheeks. My doc prescribed Metronidazole Topical Gel 0.75% and after you wash your face, you put a thin layer on the rosacea and it goes right away. I think you should ask for a prescription for this. I used to use Cortizone 10 and that works awesome, but, is not good for you at all. Not all the time.
If you have any questions, just email me.
Get well soon.

Hi M.,
I have rosacea, too, and it can be very frustrating! It can be hard to find a treatment that actually works with your skin type. I have had some improvement with Clinique's Redness Solutions-there's a creamy cleanser and a daily cream,as well as sunscreens. My skin is dry, and these are very mild and non-drying. I've also used Replenix cleanser(Ithink you have to get it from a dermatologist or maybe it can be purchased online). That worked well for me but was more pricey. I have also used the Metrogel and Finacea(?) but they seemed to dry out my skin. My rosacea had gotten really bad over the past year or so(red "acne"), and my dematologist finally prescribed azithromycin(sp?)- the "Z pack" for five days on, five off, five on to try to "break the cycle" of the rosacea. It was amazing! My skin literally cleared up in a day and a half. I obviously don't want to take unneccesary antibiotics, but it worked really well. The good news is that my skin has stayed mostly clear. I think the meds really did stop the really irritated, inflamed rosacea, and I'm trying to just keep with very mild skincare to maintain it. The Dr. said I may need to take the Z-pack again if it flairs up with stress, etc. but so far it's been pretty good- some redness, but none of the big blemishes. This is since late October. We'll see how it goes as the warm, sunny weather arrives. Anyway, I wish you luck. I kept telling myself it's not the biggest deal in the world, but it is discouraging to look in the mirror every day and not be happy with what you see and not feel like yourself. I hope you get some improvement.

Hi, M.! My name is H.. I too have suffered with Rosacea. I started working with a company called Inkomfe Solutions 2 years ago in which they make natural products that help heal Rosacea, Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne, etc. I've had Rosacea for several years trying many cremes that my dermatologist suggested & NOTHING worked! Inkomfe Solutions sells a skin crème called Skin Repair Crème that has healed my Rosacea after a couple of weeks of using it twice a day. It contains MLE (Multi Lamellar Emulsion) which works to replenish the skin's own barrier function by providing essential lipids. My dermatologist couldn't believe how my Rosacea healed up & has since recommended me to his patients whom I have been helping. ALL of the Inkomfe products contain South African Botanicals that help heal skin conditions & are made in South Africa. Inkomfe Solutions is located in Tampa, FL & the products are shipped to the company by boat from South Africa. The owner of Inkomfe Solutions is Keith Chandler, the founder of Paul Mitchell hair care products. Feel free to check out my personal website www.freewebs.com/inkomfe which contains information on all of the Inkomfe products, a price list, & information on how to reach me & place an order. Also, check out the company website www.inkomfe-usa.com If you place an order from the company website be sure to use the code 1013 in the "How did you find our site" box. I am also willing to send you a FREE Skin Bar sample if you'd like to try one. The Skin Bars also help control Rosacea. I wish you the best of luck & if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

I am trying this new stuff from Avon right now that's supposed to really help. It's Anew Rejuvenate Flash Facial Revitalizing Concentrate. My Avon lady gave me some samples of it. I literally just started using it yesterday. I must admit though the bumps have already been reduced after one use. My Avon lady also told me that she's heard people have great success with Anews Advanced Retexturizing Peel and oddly enough Anew Spider Vein Therapy. I read reviews on people who tried the Flash Facial stuff for Rosacea though and that's why I decided to give that a try. If this doesn't work I'm going to try one of her other suggestions. Honestly though the one thing that really helped me was the tetracycline. I don't really want to continue taking a pill though if I don't have to. Plus I don't have time to get to the dermatologist to be prescribed that. I will definitely be interested in what other people are suggesting here though.
