Our son has them around his bed and they work fine.
In our house we found out at Christmas time that Christmas lights make a great nightlight for our kiddos. So we left them up on their bookshelves. Last week they finally went out. So I ordered some rope lights to replace them. My son has a t-shaped bunk bed. He is begging me to install the new lights under his top bunk and above the bottom bunk. And he has convinced his sister she wants her lights around her captain bed. And originally this was a fine idea to me. I thought it would be fun and cute. Now suddenly I am terrified that this is the worst, fire hazard of an idea ever. Am I crazy? Would you be worried about a rope light attached to your child's bed? It's really unlike me to worry about something like this. Hubby doesn't have strong feelings about it, he thinks that the two feet distance from the bed isn't a huge buffer anyway.

I wasn't worried until you brought it up. LOL, now I'm on the fence, as well.
It would have to be a freak accident (exposed wiring, short, etc.), but on the bed now bothers me for some reason while next to it doesn't
Ironically, it's probably safer... As a bed on fire (or your nightstand 2 feet away) would wake you up! A fire 10-50 feet away, though, smoke inhalation often gets you before you can wake?
((I've always used Xmas lights as night lights. For a couple years, we had curtains -from ikea- that we're long hanging ropes))
I've never heard of any problem with rope lights, but why not call your fire department and ask for their recommendation?
We used a small night light at the wall plug. I bought a rope light for the hallway as a night light in the hall.
I would be very apprehensive about haning electrical lights on a bed with any of my grand kids. There is no ploblem when the lights are working as they were intended. Its when they don't operate as intended that there is a problem.
Good luck to you and yours.
I think they would be ok. They don't release the heat like the light bulbs do.
If nothing else call the company and ask if it would be safe. They should know for sure!
