Root Canal Dentists

Ok, I am terrified of the dentist. EVERY experience Ive had with dentists have been horrible, turns out the novocaine isnt as effective with me as with others.
I need to have 3, yes THREE root canals done.
We have Tricare dental, I think its called United Concordia?
Does anyone know of a GENUINELY caring dentist in or around Strongsville that will work
with me and my terror of the dentist?
I think I might have to go the 'happy gas' route so if the novocaine isnt as effective it wouldnt be all that traumatising, though Im guessing it will be anyway - yes, Im a big baby :)
Thanks everyone!

Sorry I don't have any names, but just wondering: if novacaine doesn't work on you, have you considered actually going to an oral surgeon? (I'm a "big baby" too and actually got put under to have teeth pulled for my braces years ago!) Just a thought. You'd be completely under and not know anything that's going on. That's how I like it! :)

Good luck.

Hi S.,

My dentist is in Solon so that's too far for you to drive, I'm sure, but my advice is to search online for a dentist that specializes in treating children. That's what I did and I found a place that was really good at making sure I was comfortable. (After it was over, I was like, is that all? I couldn't feel a thing with the novocaine.)

I would also try to talk to the dentist before your appointment and explain how nervous you are. They might give you a prescription for one pill of something like valium or ativan to calm you down (have someone drive you to your appointment if this is the case). It's very common to be afraid of the dentist so I guarantee you would not be their first patient with this fear.

I would recommend going to an endondontist as opposed to general dentist for the root canals. I have had about 8, so I am unfortunately a bit of an expert in this!! I had one at my gen. dentist years ago and it was so painful!! Plus gen. dentists usually do it in 2 appts, rather than just one like at the endo's (for 1 tooth).

I've had 2 or 3 done at Dr Rubin Gutarts in Parma.

Good luck, you need to get this done even if you are afraid of pain. Abcesses are not good! The bacteria can spread around your body.

I had never had a root canal before and was scared to death. I was recommended to the place below and they were great! My experience was so good I went back and had another two done within a month (yes, I too needed 3 because I had put it off for so many years). I saw Dr. Vig. They are located in Broadview Hts at the corner of Wallings Road and Broadview Rd. Not too far of a drive for you.
