I am specifically looking for rice recipes. in general one my dad made as a kid. we are moving I do have the recipe but its packed. it has rice sugar milk and I think vanilla if I remeber right. he was very poor growing up and his mom made this for breakfast in the mornings. it is going to be from the depression era I think. I searched some websites with no luck I am hoping an older lady in this site would know what I am talking about. if you have any good bean recipes send them too. thanks in advance for your help.

My husband loves this for breakfast (if it's the same thing). He heats up leftover rice in the microwave, sprinkles sugar on top and adds milk like you would to cold cereal. He also likes to add cinnamon and raisins. I have never seen him add the vanilla.

heres more of a dinner side or burrito style rice. you need basmati rice, 1 lime, 1-2 cups chopped up cilantro, 1 tspn salt and oil.
in a sauce pan combine 1 cup water, 2/3 cup rice, the chopped cilantro, and squeezed lime juice into the pan. boil. when its boiling turn heat to low to simmer for 25 mins to absorb rest of water. fluff with fork and serve.

My mom used to make sweet rice and sometimes my husband makes it. I think you just cook the rice as normal but place a cinnamon stick while cooking and then add the milk, sugar and vanilla or maybe add the sugar and vanilla while cooking. I found this recipe but it calls for eggs, not quite sure if that's what you're looking for but may be similar http://www.grouprecipes.com/20918/mommas-sweet-rice-custa...

As far as beans I just rinse them and throw them in the crock pot covered with water. I add salt, pepper, chile powder, cumin, and fresh garlic. I cook on high for probably 5 hours or so.

My husband says his mom would make this for them on a cold morning (it does get cold in Mexico sometimes). They were rural so a lot of stuff was make do with what you have.

About 2 cups rice
1 1/2 cups water

Cook the rice just like you would normally make rice. Add about a cup of milk about half way through, though you can add more depending on how you like it. My husband adds about 1/3 cup of sugar (he does not measure it, just puts it in) and 2 cinnamon sticks.

I am sure you could adjust it to how you want the rice, thick or milky, and how sweet you like it. I like it with lots of cinnamon and somewhat like cereal with milk. He likes it thick and really sweet.
