Removing Rust from Marble?

I have a marble table in my balcony and I don't know what I was thinking when I put a decorative Moroccan lantern in the middle of it, as a decorative centerpiece and as a form of lighting (you put tea lights inside of it and it serves the purpose of a candelabra with colorful shadows thrown by the colorful stained glass). I guess I got the idea from those house decoration magazines where you see people putting lanterns on their balcony floors and on tabletops for decoration, and I didn't think of the practicality of it versus the decorative aspect. Anyway...I left the lantern on the table for a few weeks before a storm arrived and I decided to bring it in as the panels of the lantern are made of glass and I was worried the wind would knock it off and damage it. Immediately, I noticed an ugly bronze ring in the middle of the table, which was caused by rust that the lantern created, due to Florida's humidity I guess. I don't know what product can lift rust off of marble without damaging the marble. The table was not overly expensive, I am just concerned that using something harsh like bleach may ruin the marble and make the table look awful, and I am not willing to replace the table at this time. I definitely learned my lesson the hard way! I am now storing it in a closet and will only be bringing it out whenever I dine outdoors. Thanks in advance.

So What Happened?

In moving from one condo to the next, the marble table's wooden base was rotting from sitting out in the rain and cracked, so I guess it's ruined. I got a cast aluminium bistro set from a friend that is beautiful, it just needs to be repainted, but other than that it's perfect, so I'll just be using that. Thanks for your advice.

I cleaned mine years ago with a can of product for marble only that I got at the local hardware store. My stains were on top of polished marble and it worked perfectly. I'm sorry I don't remember the name, but I just asked the fellow working at the store and he led me to it. Best of luck!

Try a Magic Eraser. It gets rust off things for me :)
