For those of you who have done your fertility homework...

Does anyone know approximately how close in proximity to the appearance of the egg white, clear, stretchy cervical mucous does ovulation happen? Does the presence of this type of cervical mucous mean that the egg has been released? Is about to be released? And how long after the presentation of this kind of mucous should one practice protected sex (or abstinence) to prevent pregnancy?

Thank you for helping me be lazy and not have to look this up!!! LOL

Seriously, though, thank you!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, so I looked it up. Fertile quality cervical mucous (the egg-white consistency stuff) occurs just before, or during ovulation, and would begin to change just after ovulation occurs. The purpose of this type of mucous (due to it's composition) is to protect the sperm and assist it on it's journey to the egg, essentially. Therefore, when this type of mucous is observed, ovulation is imminent, or occurring.

thanks!

I read your update so I'm sure everyone is different, but we (my husband and I) personally have this one figured out. Without providing TMI, if we TTC the day following the most clear, stretchy cervical mucous, we are pregnant (has happened 4 times now!). I would wait at least 3-5 days after seeing it to prevent pregnancy. On the front side, we were TTC for 13 mos. on the day of the mucous to no avail. So for us, it's always the period of time following it. Stay safe!

it is different for each person but it is present very close and durring ovulation. if youare trying to pinpoint when you ovulate there are better ways, chart your basel temp or get an ovulation kit. I sware by the kits I have gotten pregnant on the 1st try with all 3 of my kids using them.

I actually just asked my OBGYN this question since i was producing this mucus more than most people because of a problem im having. anyways he said "your body normally produces this mucus all month long, just thinner and less of it, aprox 1 week before ovulation the mucus will become pretty thick and stretchy. As the egg leaves the ovary and becomes ready for fertilization is about the time the mucus thins out and becomes less noticable again" id say you should always practice protected sex if you arnt trying to get pregnant. Even being told my chances of getting pregnant were extremely low due to the fact that i wasnt ovulating anymore i still got pregnant...
