Ok I have a few questions and did not want to fill up everyones emails so I am going to do an all-in-one. First...Has anyone on here used the Montesorri daycares in Eagan, There is Becks and there is one near Cub (not sure what it is called). Good or bad experiences welcomed.

Second...I had gotten some fruit flies a few weeks ago from some hidden stuff my kids had spilled. Well, just when I thought i had gotten rid of them...they seemed to have multiplied. I have sprayed bug spray daily. Is there another way to get rid of these things without worrying about getting the spray on dishes or anything we eat?

Third... I saw people saying things about apple orchards and other things. Do most of them cost to get in? Each activity cost?

What can I do next?

I have a trusted friend in Eagan who can not say enough great things about Day by Day school. Not a montessori, but if they do preschool could be worth checking out. I have used a babysitter that works there and she was wonderful.

I have an answer for the fruit fly question. Take a pop bottle small or two liter cut the top off so you have a funnel, turn it upside down and tape to the bottom, fill the bottom with some apple cider vinegar and the flies will go inside, not be able to get back out and die. It worked for me. Good luck with it.

I used to teach and we had guinea pigs- constant source of fruit flies. The custodian suggested putting out small cups of bleach (up high where kids can't reach, like on top of the cupboards). It always works like a charm!!
Also, we always go to MN Harvest. I don't think they charge admission and they have lots of fun stuff to do!! Petting zoo, live music, yummy fresh baked apple goods, tractor trailor rides, ect.
Best of luck!

I second the Day by Day option. I have a friend whose sister works there and says it great. I dont personally have my son attend but I have some really great words about it.

for the orchards, most dont charge to get in to the general area but most of them do offer extra activities (hay rides, mazes, petting zoos, etc. that do cost extra). Apple picking is per pound is quite spendy but totally worth the extra cost for good, fresh apples.

There may be more hidden treasures for you. This happened to me once. Vaccume thoroughly and under the couches and take all the trashes out. Oh, and make sure to wash all "play dishes" that may have residue on them from a previous treat.

Visiting the apple orchard or pumpkin patch are free and are an awesome fieldtrip for the kids. Purchasing extra stuff costs extra of course as does the hay rides.

Hi S.,
I had a huge fruit fly problem last year and it turned out they were multiplying in my garbage disposal in the sink. Anyway a frien told me about a mixture she used and it worked great. Mix equal parts of red wine vinegar and coke and pour some in a jar (about a 1/4 full) and set it on the counter. It attracts the flies and they drown in it. Within 2 days we had no more flies. Hope this helps. Good luck.
