One of my boys friends is a girl - she's 10 years old and wants an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas...

okay-fine...there's two out now - Easy Bake and Ultimate Easy bake...from what I understand the "Ultimate" one doesn't require a light bulb anymore...

So tell me ladies - which does your daughter have and does she like it? I had one when I was a kid and loved it, my daughter had one - but it was "okay" she's not a girly-girl....from doing some searching - holy smokes - there are tons of recipe choices and the like to bake...

Can you give me some guidance please?

Thank you!! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of laughter!!

So What Happened?

thank you ladies!!

I appreciate all the input!! I too was wondering if 10 was "too old" for the Easy Bake - that's why I asked. I was trying to figure out when I stopped using mine....aaahh age...

I know she loves baking in the real oven too. Her mom is a great cook!

THANK YOU!!!

I have a 9 year-old who has not been interested in an easy bake oven. But, I would think a 10 year-old would rather bake in a real oven. I might get her a baking recipe book and her own utensils, or something...

But then I never had one as a kid, so maybe I'm missing the point!

Well here is the problem, I let Genna use the real oven so an easy bake oven would be for babies, ya know.

Not knowing what an ultimate is I would go with the other one. Nothing like baking with a light bulb. :p

Every one should have the experience of baking with a light bulb!
Then just get her a few of the mixes.

We used to use regular cake mixes..My mom was a tight wad. Makes a ton as you can imagine.

Our daughter was given one and though t it was fun, but she also baked a lot with the real oven. She still talks about cooking with a "light bulb".

Maybe we are the odd ones out, but my daughter (10) doesn't have either. She loves to bake, though. But she does it in MY oven! It is "tradition" that when my parents come to visit, my daughter makes muffins for breakfast. At first, I helped her, or my husband did, or my mom. Now, she does it all on her own. She also likes to make pies and cakes and cookies. We typically have a potluck about once a month at church, and she loves to scour recipe books for something new to make for it.
I had a "hand me down" easy bake oven as a child, and really never was that into it. Where do all you ladies' girls use these things? Do they set them on the kitchen counter?

Sorry, I know that is not really what you were after, here... lol.

If she specifically requested an EBOven, then I would go for the "Ultimate" one, unless there is a prohibitive cost factor.

We have had the greatest opportunity to own 2 of them in our years and I to be truthful..... I do not like them. I think it is pretty slow and it cooks this stuff from a light bulb. I am sorry, I am not fond of them at all ! My girls hardly used them .

I got my daughter a light bulb one when she was 8. She I
Used it a couple times then stopped, it took too long to make a decent amount of cakes. Last Christmas we got her a mini cupcake maker and she loved it! She also likes the mini donut maker.

My daughter is 5 and got the Easy Bake oven (looks like a microwave) for her birthday. She is always asking to use the regular stove and learn to cook, but I am worried that she will get burned. I had one when I was a kid and my mom would have me use regular cake mix. I see now that they make so many different products for it including cookies. She doesn't seem to care that it is a light bulb cooking things. She is just happy to be making something.

My daughter got one 2 years ago(the regular). She used it once so I sold it and a case of mixes. At 10, she asked for another one.
She is not getting it. The mixes are overpriced, it was not tasty, and it made tiny cakes.

I would suggest getting the cake ball pan, dipping chocolate, candies, sticks, and cake mixes. We had lots of fun with this and the cake was really moist.

Hmm...we got one for Kaelyn this year. It's in the garage...I think it might be the ultimate one.

She cooks in the real oven all the time....but this she'll be able to do mostly on her own. She won't need me to monitor her every move like I do with my oven.

Okay ladies.... for those of you who do have daughters that use an Easy Bake Oven, I know a website that gives tons of recipes for those small pans. (It's way cheaper than using those mixes in the store for $6 and up and all that's required from your daughter to do is to add water. These recipes allow the kids to measure sugar, flour, etc... in small amounts.) Here's the link: http://www.budget101.com/frugal/easy-bake-oven-mixes-187/ (great site!)

As for my almost 10 yr. old daughter, she hasn't pulled out hers for at least 2 years. Hasbro has the recommended age of 8 plus (I think) and I'm sure that's for safety reasons/lawsuits, etc... But I supervised her very closely as a kindergarten using it and it was fun back then. I need to get it out of the attic and donate it or see if my friend wants it for her little girl. My daughter loves helping me bake but she sets the real oven now and loves programming the temperature since it's all digital. We keep the oven light on and she can watch the progress of her bakery "goods" through the oven door. I wonder just how long your son's friend will really enjoy an EAsy Bake Oven as a 10 year old??? (Just saying.....)

My daughter is 11 and even though I say with no regrets that she is quite immature for her age with her "likes" we went through the whole easy bake phase several years ago. She much prefers helping me in the kitchen and using the actual oven, Easy Bake was relegated to the garage years ago, and in fact was tossed at our last move. Buy her some cute kitchen gadgets, they have all kinds of cute cooking accessories at places like Michael's or Hobby Lobby ( tiny shaped cake pans, shaped cup cake pans etc) then buy her some inexpensive mixes to go with it, or give your own jarred mixes ( always fun)

No - my 7 yr old daughter is too old for hers. I would get her a cute apron, maybe some fun oven mits. My MIL gave my daughter a Betty Crocker Cookie Book last year for Christmas - she loves it! We make different recipes from it and write on the page, the date we first made them and how they were.
