There are alot of great preschools. A few to look at are The neighborhood school there are two in Sherman Oaks. Also in Studio City Sunnyside, Oakdale. Call for tours and try a mommy and me class this way you get a feeling for the school. Start soon because they do fill up. Also get feedback from moms and see what environment will work best for you and your child. Have fun with it.
Children Circle Nursery School is in Van Nuys but families come from all over the city--as far as Malibu and Pasadena. The director, Tim Craig, has created a very strong community around the school. He shares his knowledge of preschoolers, of education and of parenting with the parents of his students. The first time I visited I was impressed by how the children spoke to each other and how they spoke to their teachers. Repecting and caring for other people is put into action at Children's Circle. The playground is an amazingly creative environment with lots of opportunity for physical and pretend play. The classrooms are always full of wonderful block structures, artwork, dress-up clothes. The group meeting times in the classrooms are amazing. The teachers at Children Circle are very well trained and very warm, intelligent peope. My teenagers return to visit as often as they can and my oldest works there as a camp a counselor in the summer. Not everyone who visits likes the place but the families who go there really appreciate the opportunity.
COVS - Church of the Valley preschool. It's the best and a secret to most!!! It is a progressive pre-school with the most fantastic teachers. The price is way better then the other schools mentioned. They have a mommy and me class on Fridays. My four-year-old goes there and we love it. It's on the grounds of Church of the Valley at 6565 Vesper Ave in Van Nuys. The play yard is wonderful with big trees for shade and lots of grass. You won't be sorry if you go check this school out.

i know people who have gone to all of these, my child went to the adat ari el pre-school, and now is at the day school, great program :)
