The can says to use it within 48 hours, but do I really have to use it within 48 hours? My son doesn't eat that much in 48 hours, but he does in 72 hours. Can I use this for 3 days instead of 2? I usually use powder formula when I do use it, but I got a great deal on the liquid so I purchased several cans of it.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can keep it three days. Just refrigerate the unused portion. In fact, if you pour out the portions into bottles when you open the can, then what remains will have been "exposed" only once, so to speak. Just cap the bottles and pull them out one at a time.

As a side note, when my boy was using some formula because I didn't have much milk, I had a couple of M.D.s tell me that it was okay. Truth is that the extreme caution warnings are overkill for us in the US due to the fact that we have relatively clean living environments. In fact, one of the doctors is from the Philippines, and she directly compared US to Philippines when telling me this.

I also think that using it in 72 hours would be safe. Manufacturers have to be conservative in listing use before times. Be sure to keep it refrigerated and cap closed so that it's not exposed to pathogens.

This is one of those things that, if it says to use it in 2 days - use it in 2 days. To me it's not worth risking your baby's health over. IMO

As long as you are storing it properly after opening the bottle, it will be fine!

The formula companies would tell you "use within 12 hours" if they could get away with it!!

I always used it within the 48hrs or it went down the drain. I was not going to risk my baby getting sick.

Whether or not you keep it two days or three, be sure to NOT store it in the can. THAT is the worst place to keep it once it has been opened. Same thing with ANYthing else canned (veggies, beans, etc).
