I had my tubes clamped about 6 1/2 years ago and I have regretted that decision ever since!! Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a child after clamping the tubes!

What can I do next?

The rate of success of reversal depends on numerous factors, including the type of sterilization procedure you had. You can call the office of the OB/GYN who performed the procedure and ask them for specifics, because they will probably have better information. It may be that your particular kind is irreversible. I've not heard of having tubes "clamped" before, so I really have no idea whether it can be reversed or not.

Another possibility that you may bring up with your doctor is in vitro fertilization. Although you're not technically infertile, you may be able to use fertility treatments in order to get pregnant. I've not heard of this before, but it seems possible and logical to do. Many infertile women will have their eggs harvested from their ovaries, fertilized in a test tube, and then have the embryos transferred to the uterus. Obviously, this can get pretty expensive, is a huge hassle, is not without risk, nor does it carry a guarantee of having a baby.

It seems to me that I have heard there are surgeries to reverse this procedure. I would call my OBGYN and find out what the options are.

Good luck!

It's not impossible although the chances are slim that you won't get pregnant again. I think the younger you have it done the higher the chance it is that you could get pregnant. My OB told me he would not do a reversal on me when I had my tubes tied. He said it's a waste of time and effort because seldom does a reversal work. He told me to make for sure I didn't want anymore children. Now I have 2 boys and would love to have a little girl but when I had my tubes tied my husband and I decided if we wanted that little girl we would adopt. There are options for another child if you want one. I don't know if you can afford in vitro fertilization but that could work for you too.

My mother had her tubes clamped too and after divorcing my father and marrying my step-father they decided they wanted to have a baby. It had been 18 years since her last child. She saw a doctor that told her that they could not reverse the surgery but they were able to preform in-vitro. You are young enough that you should be able to use your own eggs however if for some reason you can't you can always look into donor eggs. Keep in mind too that my mother was 10 years older than you are when she had this procedure done and was not without a couple of small issues. But the good Lord watched over her and I am happy to say that I now have a 12 year old brother. I wish you much success!!

I believe you can do IVF. Good luck.

I'm sorry that you are dealing with regrets over this. If you could reverse the procedure - what are your reasons? Is it just that you want another child? Have you considered adoption? There are many children out there who need a mother's love and a family. Sure there are more older children as far as numbers, but you can still adopt an infant. Or perhaps you could do some type of volunteer work with babies (like the nursery at your church) to help you have some baby cuddle time!

L., doctors indeed recommended IVF treatments in your situation. Getting pregnant a traditional way after reversing tied tubes may be a dangerous endeavor. First, our IVF doctors say that reversing tide tubes is typically not an effective procedure. Moreover, even if the reversing tied tubes procedure is done, chances of having tubal pregnancy (situation when the fertilize egg implants itself outside uterus) are very that patient. That is the reason why doctors recommend to have IVF, in cases like yours.
