I just would like to get some you you mothers out there, your opinion. I have children already but unfortunately I had them within a relationship that will never go anywhere or progress to marriage. However, I had my tubes tied after my second child in June 2005. I spoke to my Gyno about tubal reversal incase I would ever get married later on in life (im only 26) and we decided we wanted children. He mentioned that reversing my tubal was just as costly as one round of IVF. However IVF would give me one ore more children possibly and I wouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant in the future if that isn't something I wanted. Does anyone have any experience in either or these?? Maybe the cost of either and your success stories or lack thereof (sorry if that is the case). I am just curious on what the success rate may be. Thank You

What can I do next?

I myself don't have experience in this area but my good friend is in this dilemma right now herself. She was married and had a family and had a tubal ligation done. Now she is remarried to her soul-mate and they want a baby together, he has no children. But in her case there is no reversal option and IVF is her only option. The cost aspect is tremendous, her insurance covers most of it, but there are no guarantees. But you should research it further because a round of IVF is the the process it may not include the hormones that you have to take before the process, the lab cost of fertilization, and the many other cost that are included. A small hint, it can run into the tens of thousands.
One small question, I'm not being mean in any sense, but if you have a "not so great boyfriend" then why are you even thinking of this?

I am confused......are you and the "not so great boyfriend" wanting another baby? Or are you wanting to just have the reversal in case this releationship ends and you meet and marry later but are still with this boyfriend now?

I apologize for my confusion but it does depend on how I would feel if I were you.

HI Meriah,

I have gone through infertility treatments. I see it this way, and I can't believe the Dr's didn't consider this....
The reversal is a one time shot deal, done.

IVF is a HIT AND MISS, it doesn't matter if you've had children before, what makes you think (or him) that there couldn't be a chance that you do NOT get pregnant on the first round of IVF???

Totally possible, then you're not looking at similar expenses any longer.... but rather a huge bill unless (unlikely) you have insurance that covers this kind of stuff.
Too risky in my opinion!

You may already know this but fertility treatments are no walk in the park.

Are you ready for the hormones, the potential daily pill-taking, injections, egg retrieval, GIFT/ZIFT procedures, going to the blood lab 3 times a week for draws, the waiting...only to find out perhaps that month after month after month that it didn't work and then dealing with the emotional aspects of it? Also you need to consider whether or not you are okay with having twins or triplets with IVF. Often, a doctor will fertilize several eggs and then implant them into the uterus because it is common for them to not implant. Fortunately, most people don't end up with a litter of children because they have responsible doctors who do a good job. We went through 3 years of hard work, heartache, miscarriage, and fortunately we were finally blessed with success.

If you're talking about a procedure where a doctor retrieves the egg and mixes it with semen for fertilization, then implants it into the uterus, you're talking at least $10,000 PER attempt (that's typically just the IVF procedure, not all the lab work, drugs/medications, your partner providing his semen sample(s), office visits which will be 2-3 times a week at various points in your cycle, etc.). Success rates vary depending on individual circumstances and practice. Anywhere from 30-50% of IVF attempts result in live birth. Some insurance companies covers it and some don't.

I don't think so tubal reversal is expensive as compare to IVF treatment. Infect IVF is costly procedure while tubal reversal is low cost surgical procedure with high success rate of pregnancy. IVF cost is about $8 k to $15k and tubal reversal cost is about $5k to $7k.

you can check here cost: http://www.tubal-reversal-surgery.net/tubal-reversal-cost

I prefer tubal reversal because it is a S. time surgical procedure.

Hi, you sound like me only yours are older, lolI'm int eh same boat but after extensive online research I'm having a reversal done, there are severalplaces in ohio taht do it and while yes it can cost almost as much as IVF it doesn't have to, there is a doctor in youngstown i beleive, I've talked to so many i might be wrong, but his name is Dr. Collins and here is his info The Reproductive Center 877-214-8390 Toll-free, i goggled him and everything is great and his fee is 6,500 and that is everything but the pain meds after you are discharged. If you are willing to travel there are a lot of places, just google tubal reversal that have outpatient clincs and are in the 5,500 -7,000 range and have excellent reviews, but I'll be using Dr. Collins because for me the slightly higher fee outweighs having to leave state. Cafemom.com has some great groups for ppl who have had and are considering tubal reversal as well, so good luck.
