My three year old son took to peeing on the "big" potty pretty fast. However, it's been about 5 weeks now and he still refuses to go #2 on it. We encourage him, try bribing him w/ sticker charts/surprises, and make him personally accountable for the mess (he cleans up, gets clean clothes). I have heard that it's a boy thing. Has anyone had the same experience? Any ideas?
My son was afraid of falling in so we got him a small seat that fits on top of the regular toilet seat-it has power rangers on it, which he loves-and he now always goes poo poo on the toilet like a big boy power ranger.
My son is 5 now and at 3 he was a problem to train as well.I train his movement (bowel) as my mom did me by giving him an oatmeal cookie and apple juice.
It takes about 30 to 45 min before he goes.
I give him the juice and cookie and in 30 mins.
I run a warm bath and before he gets in the tub he potty
and we are done.
I had the same problem with my 3 year old. My first son was fine. He was extremely easy to bribe with the sticker charts, but my second...forget about it. We just used the timer. Every hour or so, the timer would go off and he knew he had to go sit on the potty for a couple minutes. He ended up getting sick of having to stop what he was doing every hour and he started going whenever he felt the urge. Literally, within a week, he stopped having any accidents and he even slept through the night and woke up dry every time. After months and months of trying, a light bulb literally went off in his head and that was it...he was potty trained. Good Luck!
We had the same trouble with our 3 year old son this past Dec. What seemed to work is this, whenever he would announce that he had a #2 coming, we would put a diaper on him and tell him he had to do it in the diaper in the bathroom. This way he was at least doing it in the right place. Then when he mastered that, we had him start to sit on the potty with his diaper. He just in the last two weeks seemed less afraid of trying to poop without the diaper on the potty. It's still not perfect but it is working. Good luck!
Dont think its a gender thing cause I had no real problem with my boys but my daughter was almost 4! Maybe they just develop both mentally & physically at their own pace. Sometimes you have to get creative. My hubby came up with the idea that each time she used the potty all day he would give her a parade when he got home. He carried her on his shoulders humming a marching tune while her brothers & I marched behind all through the house. After a few parades she was set!
My son is also 3 and just like your son took to going pee quuite quickly. I think the way we ended up getting him to go #2 was showing him when we went and also giving him treats if he went himself. It took a while but he started doing all on his own.
I hear you. I have a 3 year old son and a 2 year old son. I am beginning to think my 2 year old is going to get this whole potty training thing before my 3 year old. #1 has been really good and he is waking up dry in the morning. But... every day around three, I am told from his daycare teachers, that he usually trys to sneak off and do his business in private. Cant say I blame him. There is no privacy at school. Up until Tuesday I worked full time, but being in the housing industry I got layed off. I am hoping being able to stay home with him will help. I will let you know how it goes. Good luck.
