Hi My name is E.. I have a 2 year old boy also. and I noticed that he was going to the bathroom with me when I went and started watchin. then he would go into the bathroom alone and lift the seat and hold his diaper. So I just started taking his diaper off and sitting him on his little boy potty. when I would go and he started going in his potty everytime.

My son was peeing in the toilet (not pooping) at 2 1/2. after a few months something scared him & he quit completely. He was not liking the loud flush of the toilet, & the toilet drain hole scared him. Finall just before his 4th birthday has used the potty & wears only undies. I really had to step back & let him do it when he was ready. The more I pushed him to do it the more he resisted. Just sit back & encourage him when he's interested!!

Hi A.,

I have a little boy who will be 3 1/2 in July and it is a very hard long process. But the key is not to get too frusterated. Just go with the flow (no pun intended). We are still dealing with going #2 in the potty, but we have totally mastered #1 and my little guy wears big boy underwear all day and night. Believe me, he will get there. I have also heard that it is harder to train boys. I too have read a lot of books and talked to my ped, but all of my girlfriends with boys said the same thing. Don't push them too hard or it will just take longer and you and him will just get more aggravated and stressed out. Introduce the potty to him, etc. I made a big deal and told my son we were going out to buy big boy underwear and let him pick them out and that made a difference. He was so excited to wear them and finally started going #1 on the potty. If you haven't already, maybe try that. Also, make up a board/calendar and give incentives. Like, every day that he goes potty in the potty he gets a treat like stickers or something like that. And give bigger rewards for when he does #2. Then, if he makes it a full week with going potty everyday do a really big reward like taking him to Chuckie Cheeses or something like that. Just start out gradually and always remember that he will get there:) Hope that helps. Good luck.

My oldest son was 1 1/2. I knew he was ready when he would take off his dirty diapers. All I did was let him run around naked all day for one day, and we told him that if he had to go he should run to the restroom. It worked like a charm! I'm actually looking forward to potty training my youngest boy, who just turned one.

Hi A.,
As a first time mom, I have to say that potty training was the hardest for me to understand. My little boy is now just over 3 years old and has finally figured out the whole bathroom idea! I started when he was 2 and it has been a long year! The one thing that I learned was that they use thepotty when they are ready. I tried all types of media(ie:books, video, rollplaying) He thought they were entertaining, but just didn't seem to have the desire to get away from diapers. It drives you crazy when other moms are telling you that there kid is already potty trained, but it's all about the kid. Follow your little one lead and try to be as positive and excited about this new terrritory and he will come around. Oh, Ethan does sit on the pottty at home, but we have started to have him stand when we are at the public bathrooms, it also makes him feel all grown up like daddy. Let me know if you have any other questions. I wish I had an answer for you, but it seems to me that every child is so different in this subject. Good Luck! K.

I am potty training my 23 month old boy now the only technique that has worked for me was to do it completley without aid from any type of diapers or pull ups. I just wait untill they are showing interest in the potty and then move right into underwear. It will be a total mess for a few days with tons of accidents, then it starts to work. I believe that using pull ups, even at night, just prolongs the process because they are just a modified diaper and much more expensive too. Try letting your son pee outside too. My kids think it is great fun and it helped them learn. Good Luck!

I went through the same thing with my oldest boy. I found out that when he is ready to potty train he'll let you know. trust me it can be a litlle nerve racking but, He do it when he is ready.
I always ask my boys do you need to go potty that does help. They will tell you trust me.
Good Luck!

My little boy just started following us to the bathroom, I didn't force him I just bought a stepping stool so he reached and I just finally asked him after awhile if he wanted to try the potty and he just started. He started by sitting like the girls and then he just decided he wanted to do it like daddy. Just tell him that's how big people potty and ask if he wants to try it, if not just go on with trying next time. He'll let you know when he's ready. :0) Doing it this way with my son he has never had an accident and he's 4 yrs old now.
