Hi A.,
I have had the pleasure of training two sons and neither was the same. With my oldest, fruit loops (or cheerios) in the toilet worked! With my youngest, time, songs, and wild excitement worked.
Oldest: Put 3 fruit loops in the toilet and told him to aim. He was 15 months, that day was the last of diapers. He was ready though and had been trying. There were a lot of accidents, but it was a lot better than diapers.
Youngest: I waited for him because he never had any interest. When my 3yr old neice was going potty like a big girl he wanted to as well so we started. He is 2 and we've been trying since Christmas. Two weeks ago I stopped buying diapers and night time pull ups. I bought him Spiderman underpants and told him not to get spiderman wet. Last night he went all night without an accident! First time! What I learned though is that diapers and pull ups let them be lazy about it. Find something that excites you son, bribing is ok, but screaming wildly and running around crazy works better for us.
Good luck to both of you

Almost forgot.... Pooping on potty was a nightmare until we made up the bye bye poop song. Books work great as well because he is occupied and not trying so hard.
Just a hint... asking your son if he has to potty about every 15 minutes seems rediculous, but eventually there will be a lot less accidents because what are the chances that anyone would have to pee twice in 15 minutes? It teaches him to reconize what his body is telling him.
