My son has been basically "pee trained" for a while. But he still poops his pants every time. He has also started having a lot of pee accidents but only at home. He also only poops at home. Any advice on overcoming this? He is 3 months past his 3rd birthday.

My daughter went through the same thing she was pee trained first. Then the bigger deal we made about pooping in the pottey the more pee accidents she had . She also would only poop at home. She will be 3 in January and her daycare has still never had to change a poop diaper. We were trying everything . Then we bought this book called "Everyone poops" It talks about all differant animals and what their poop looks like . She thought it was hilarious. We read it every night and also I would sit her on the potty and read it . So we would talk about what kind of poop she would make in the potty . She would name what kind of poop she will make like Elephant poop . She though it was funny and it took the stress out of it for her . She has been potty trained ever since. Good Luck!

M. ; ive had 3 boys, and each of them never got the full control of their bowls or pee till four, until then we still had accidents, its ok, and perfectly normal, while you are out, you may be more conscience of taking him potty , and while at home you may be a bit more relaxed him too, so no need to fret, just keep doing what you are doing, and enjoy life, D. s

Don't worry about his age - each child is different. My son had the same issue. It lasted for 6 months where we felt he was actually make a decision not to use the potty. What we did and I admit I am shocked it worked - I had him on a fiber tablet to make it easy for him to go and then we would put him in the bathroom 15 min after breakfast and dinner and tell him, not ask him to poop. We also gave him a timer and set it for 8 minutes and told him to "beat the clock" so he would try and poop before the timer went off - then he actually got excited about a potty chart with transformer stickers (I let him pick out the stickers at the store, I had no idea what a transformer was!).

Just remember you are not alone in this battle!
Good Luck

My son started peeing in his pants too. He was also peeing more often than normal. We thought maybe he had a urinary tract infection so we took him to the doctor. He was constipated really bad. He was pooping everyday but wasn't getting it all out. This may not be what your son is experience, but it might be a good idea to rule out anything medical.
Good luck!

Hi M.,
My oldest son was doing the same thing and he knew when he had to go so eventually I had him help in the clean up so he could understand why it was so important to go on the toilet. He never had an accident again. lol It was all done in a loving way but it made it real to him.

We are in the same position at the same age! I've tried everything...even the cleaning up part. That seemed to help with the potty accidents but not the pooping. We've tried the HUGEST prizes as motivation and it may get him to go in the potty once. I do have him ask for a diaper or pull-up to go poop in to prevent the messing in his pants. If I don't get one for him he will just go in his pants. I did read to have them go into the bathroom with his diaper on to poop, then have him sit on the toilet or potty chair to poop in the potty. And then eventually he'll take it off and be able to go without. Well, at first it worked to get him in the bathroom, but then he fought it. So everytime we're cleaning up I tell him how nice it will be when someday he will poop in the potty. I'm just hoping it'll click someday. Good luck.

My oldest son did the same thing. He would pee in the potty with no problem but hide to poop. Eventually he just stopped doing it when he was about 3 1/2. Just keep positive and don't make too big a deal when he has an accident and a huge deal when he doesn't. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I promise!

Go cold turkey from the pull-ups/diapers if you're still using them. It worked everytime for us. Be sure to use a timer and set it for every 30 to 45 minutes and make him sit on the potty whether he needs to or not, so you catch him when he finally does.

If he's one to go shortly after eating a meal, you can time things so you get him on a potty shortly thereafter.
