Potty Train in 3 Days? Say It Aint So!

Yeah it can work, but only if they are ready and the only way to determine if they are ready is to try. We tried the Potty training with my son around 2 and he peed all over my floor and worse! I finally tried again at about 33 months and he got the peeing part down in a day and a half. He was ready. We won't talk about pooping that came about 6 months later. My daughter is now 2 (25 months) She's been telling me she needs a diaper change for about 2 months now and can go for long periods, but REFUSES to sit on the potty! Having said all of that, try the read, just look it up online or something, don't spend money on a book, looks like a few Moms have put up good suggestions here. Good luck!

I didn't pay for it. I went with my cousin's variation. You take your kiddo to the store (dollar store works great!!) and let them pick out 2-3 toys and maybe a book or two. These are Potty Toys. They only belong in the bathroom! They may NOT play with them anywhere other than when they are sitting on the potty. Also let her pick out some of her favorite candies. Make a little chart out of paper: I just labeled the top of the page with POTTY, then make columns of boxes below each letter for when she succeeds. Each time she pees on the potty help her write a letter in a box, each time she poops on the potty help her write TWO letters. When she has spelled the word POTTY out by using the bathroom let her pick a candy. Also, with my son, we let him pick a candy if he poops on the potty. Take three days out of your schedule. Plan on not leaving the bathroom much. Use underwear- not pull ups so they can't see that as an excuse for having an accident (it also makes you more commited to potty training because you don't want to clean up the accidents). Starting when she wakes up, and every 20 minutes after that: Help her go sit on the potty. If she doesn't go right off the bat let her play with the toys (with my son it was a disk shooter- I'd let him shoot 5 disks...) just make sure that there's a limited time span to play with the toys- when her time limit's up with the toys you set a timer for 5 minutes. During those 5 minutes she needs to keep trying, no playing with toys, just trying. After it's been five minutes if she still hasn't gone, repeat the process of playing, then trying. If you've done the trying 3 times, get out of the bathroom and try again later. When she does go on the potty MAKE A HUGE DEAL ABOUT IT!!! My pediatrician recommended the Potty Training In A Day method, although you don't have to buy anything. There's even some information on it on Dr.Phil's website (or there was a year ago.

I tried it with my second, and he did great. Actually, he did better than great. YOu're supposed to set aside a day with no interruptions and set the timer to go off every 20 minutes. We did this, and he didn't go potty at 20 minutes. But on his own, he went at 30 minutes and got a chocolate chip. He hardly had any accidents! But he kept peeing about a teaspoon every 10 minutes--he wasn't holding it. So after a few weeks of him not being able to leave the house or even wear underwear, we gave up.

My point is that the child has to be COMPLETELY ready. With my first, I started potty training because I noticed his diapers were dry, dry, dry, then suddenly overflowing. He was holding it. They have to be able to understnad the process, too. My second understood the process, but wasn't holding yet, and you really have to have both pieces of the puzzle.
I'm happy to say that my second is now potty trained. He just needed some more time for h is body to mature.

It got my daughter used to going potty, but we still have accidents. The principles are good, I'm just not sure it's worth the money.

If she's ready, she'll potty train quickly anyway. If she's not, the program is going to frustrate both of you. Either way, I would not spend $40. Save it for celebration when she's done training!

Our public library (Orem, UT) has a Parent and Educators Resource Center in the basement and it has the book "Potty Training in Less than a day" (at least 3 copies) and a baby to check out to use during the "potty party." The book does tell you if your child is ready to begin potty training. The only thing that could be purchased is a potty chair, panties, and plenty of drinks for the little one to guzzle during the potty party.

I loved "Toilet Training in a Day" by Azrin. Best part, it's free from your library. Worked like a charm with both my boys. We potty trained right around their 2nd birthday. Our first did fine at naps and night right from the get go. Our second son took about a year to get there, but was fine during the day. I'm planning on doing it with our daughter in just a few months. I have a friend who swears by it and did it with all five of their kids. GL! I should mention, the book sounds kind of harsh, so we adapt it a bit, so it takes more like a full day to two days, but it does work!

Both my sisters did this 3 day system and it worked great for them. I do not think that they bought anything though, just looked it up on the internet and then tried their own variation in it. They both had great success with their kids (one a 3yr old girl and the other a 3yr old boy).

My advice would be to not use Pull ups. They feel the same as underwear and so it is confusing as to which pair they can go potty in and which ones they can't. I used the cloth training underwear to help contain messes, but also let the kids know immediately when they have an accident.

I love the idea and it does work, however it did not work in three days. It took over a week, but in three days it gave my son and I a good solid posative starting place. Also despite what the method says we use pull ups at night and naps as I'm never up to waking a sleeping toddler unless necessary. We are almost off pull ups for naps and 50/50 on waking up dry. I think you can just buy the e-book for like 25.00 the potty seat and underwear you will need for any training method you decide. Also get a book you can read every night with your toddler as it got my son excited and is a good refresher when we have accidents.

I wouldn't spend my money. The kids will get the idea, but won't be potty trained like we are in 3 days.
