I am in need of a good, dependable DVD player for a trip to Italy with my 4 y.o. daughter. I had one but after just one yr. it stopped working (probably b/c she loved pushing the buttons). I need one with a long battery life (obviously it's a very long trip) and one that will be dependable for a longer period of time. I'd like to also be able to use it in the car for those long road trips to see Grandma. If any of you know of a reliable DVD player (or something similar) at a reasonable price, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. You're all so wonderful in your responses.

We have a Sony DVP-FX820 DVD Player. It has a long battery life 6 hours and it's very easy for my 4 year old to use. It has a swivel screen and runs around $150. I bought mine at Best Buy but make sure you shop around a little. Best Buy price matched Wal-Mart and I got it $20 cheaper!

any one is good for the car they all have plug in's for the "lighter" long battery life is tough they all are about 3-4 hours...you could try purchasing a 2nd or even 3rd universal battery and charged them all before leaving. My son is almost 8 and we have been through 4 or 5 portable DVD players, they are not made to hold up well to kids. So buy what you can afford with the inderstanding that you WILL be getting another....and another....and another

We have a Panasonic one that we have used for 6 years and it is still wonderful. We also have Sony ones for the car and those are still working well also. I think the typical battery life is only 2 hours though. You might have to buy some extra batteries for it although I am not sure how expensive that will be.

Wal-Mart sells a plastic kid proof one that apparently you can throw down a flight of stairs and it will still work. It's $150.

we bought a reasonably priced portable dvd player quite a while ago. by itself, the battery is not long enough. we did purchase the separate battery. it lasts around 8 hours.
