She might be dehydrated from all this summer heat. Has she been drinking enough fluids? Her tummy should not be hard like that. A hot water bottle, not too hot, is good for soothing, and so is rubbing, especially in the direction the large intestine travels. Try feeding her fruit juices, water, and prunes. If it doesn't eliminate the hard tummy, I would take her to the doctor.

message her tummy lightly downward to work it out you could also try putting one hand palm down on her tummy and with the other hand make a fist and nock lightly a few times it should sound hallow then you could get her some regular prune juice but if she is a baby give her gerbers baby prune juice or prunes that should help her poop. I had to do that with my daughter and it work.

I always found 2 tsps of olive oil helped. Make sure she is drinking enough water. Prune juice can help too. It's always wise to check with the pediatrician to rule out any serious problems.

hi H.! i dont know how old your daughter is but, i have a three year old son that is on "miralax" everyday. he gets 3 tsp- per 6-8 oz of water. i sometimes also have to give him a "pedialax liquid suppository"; but you should call you daughters pediatrician to get there opinion/and proper does for her weight/ and or age.

Give her some prune juice or aloe juice. This will help.

The ziploc trick will help, but there are other things you can do in addition. Cut back on dairy, including yogurt & cheese, and try to avoid bananas & other starchy foods. Foods that will help "move things along" are: oatmeal, grapes, raisins, OJ with pulp (or any fruit juice, really...too much of any kind of juice will give diarrhea), pears, graham crackers, prunes. If changing her diet doesn't work, you can call the pediatrician & speak to a nurse in the office for suggestions. I would give it a couple days after changing her diet & you should see results...I've gone through that a few times with my son. He's gone up to 3 days w/o pooping, so don't worry! GL!

I would take a good look at her diet. I know kids aren't always crazy about vegetables, but they must eat them to stay healthy. If you need to get creative and even hide them in her food, do it! Too many starchy foods like, dairy, carbs, and even bananas will constipate if they are not getting enough fiber from whole grains fruits and vegetables. For a relatively quick fix, always remember the 3 P's: Prunes, Pears and Peaches! Most kids like those, and it works! If you get a canned version, get the "lite" that is packed with pear juice instead of any syrups, much healthier!
Good Luck!

depending on her age, i would give her some slippery elm (herb) or a bit of karosyrup to loosen her up. and consider anything new added to her diet recently to cause her bind.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is but changing her diet in any way can have an impact. I changed my 9 month olds formula from Good Start to the walmart brand and it clogged her right up and I had to take her to ER to get her poop out. I couldn't believe that something like that could have such an affect on her stomach, but it can! now I give her more juice and water and even sometimes prune juice if she doesn't poop when she normally does. Good luck! I hope you figure it out.

It seems like she is pretty little. If she is still breastfed this is completely normal. Although a warm bath and and putting her legs through the running movements is also helpful. Good luck.

Massage and warmth are certainly beneficial. Some probiotics and digestive enzymes could be helpful, also magnesium and vitamin C and a temporary diet of fresh fruits and veggies. Also encourage her to let go of any tension or anxiety she's holding if that's possible. You didn't mention her age, so that could be a factor in which things to apply.

My son had a hard tummy for quite a while, his tummy was so sensitive. His pediatrition suggested Bio Gaia which is a probiotic for children and babies. Go to any Pharmacy (Shoppers Drugmart or Superstore, etc) and ask for it, you don't need a perscription but they store it in their fridge. Hopefully this will help.

This sounds like she is very constipated and a hard, distended stomach is NOT a good thing. I think this warrants a trip to the pediatrician and a look at what she's been eating and drinking over the past few weeks. I don't know how old your daughter is but age plays into this too. If she's an infant, this is of great concern. A toddler who is potty training can constipate themselves by "holding" poop in because they are afraid to go to the bathroom or are rebelling on the potty training. If this is an older child.....it is still a big issue and needs medical attention to rule out any problems and get some help to soften things up and move it along. Don't wait. Go see your doctor and things should get better pretty quickly.

I don't know your daughter's age but per my son's pediatrician last fall, we've been using Miralax daily in his beverage of choice. No more constipation!

What is she eating?
How old is she?
How much water is she drinking?
Probiotics is always the answer for gastro intestinal problems- that is friendly bacteria- they are suppose to be there- they help us digest our food and make vits for us--they regulate poop, in other words,
Check with you doc and see if in the meantime you should use a suppository.
best, k

Hi H., if it were several days of no pooping I'd say she was constipated and you might have to use a glycine(sp) sopository to get her to poop. When my son was 3months to six months I had to use them to get him to poop. It stressed me out but of course he was fine. Definitly go with the warm water and jog her legs. This is truly not uncommon especially since she is a BF'd baby. If at this point you are supplementing with formula it could be too much iron and that makes a lot of babies constipated. If it continues through Monday call the ped and they will give you other remedies. It's hard when they are so young and can't tell us if they are uncomfortable. Good luck.
