Ok, I have a friend that has a lot of sons, they ALL pick their noses, and eat it(I am literally gagging right now). I see it, so does my friend, but SHE doesn't say anything. I offer a tissue, and they look at it, like "What's that?" I am so grossed out, because these kids want high fives, and to hold MY kids hands etc. How do I politely tell her it is a BIG problem, or do I ignore it, and continue to hand sanitize everytime. I know this is a common problem but what is the etiquite on this?

What can I do next?

I teach preschool and spend much of my work day telling little people to get their fingers out of their noses, it's germy. I also let them know I won't let them touch me until they clean their hands because I don't want to get sick. I have a hand sanitizer available at all times.
I found a great little song I sing to them when I see a finger exploring the nether regions of their noses..
"Don't put your finger up your nose,
Your nose, knows it's not the place it goes.
You can sniffle, you can sneeze
But I'm asking you please..
Don't put your finger up your nose!"
I agree, it is gross and disgusting.. but use your sense of humor to get your point across! I would stress the germ part and that you can't let them touch your kids or you if their fingers have been in places they don't belong.

#1... that's gross...#2...it's not normal. As a baby, your nose is new territory, and it's cool to explore, but there is an age limit to that. My 3 year old used to put his fingers up there when he was much younger, but I kept telling him it was yucky and it stopped. My 19 month old has had no desire to up there. (Thank God)When your friend sees them grazing in their nasal passages, does she think its gross? What do your kids say when they see it happen? If your good friends, just tell her or bring it up with her the next time you see "it" happen. Keep offering tissues and load up on the sanitizer. Hopefully if you say something to Mom she'll nix it quick or she's going to have issues when her kids go to school and the other kids see what "name" is eating for lunch. Yucky!

I like Jane's little song, but I have never been quick witted. I would simply tell them they aren't allowed to touch the toys if they can't keep their fingers out of their noses. Carry Lysol and hand sanitizer when you go to your friends house. Let her see that you spray down the toys, and wipe the kids hands. Make sure you friend is in the room when you tell her children how nasty it is to pick their noses. Maybe she'll get the picture.

My daughter is almost 9 and when she was about 3, she used to pick her nose and eat it. I told her one day, "B" stop eating your boogers there nasty, and she said, "No mommy, boogers are good, pizza is nasty." I will never forget that.

You know I have the same problem with my husbands side of the family and its so disgusting I feel like I'm the only one who doesnt feel the need to eat things that come out of my nose honestly you can probably gently explain that you feel its nat a polite habit but if that doesnt work then I'm all out of ideas because I mentioned it to the person I know who does it and they still do it.Yuck
