My poor son's karate uniform has a slight pink hue to it. & NO, I didn't wash it with a red towel.
The first time I washed it I threw it in a load of whites that had one of my daughters pajamas that had a *little pink but it was very light & they had been washed many times prior so that wouldn't have done it. I bleached it many times after that & it kept turning out pink.
Finally I figured out that it had black tags sewn on & I think they were causing the pink hue.
I took them off & bleached it again but its still pink.
Anyone have any recommendations?
The washer is fairly new too, Could it be the washer? Its an HE top loader.
oh man, so sorry, Does the Rite dye company make a color remover? Bleach is all i can think of, or ask at the place he takes karate i'm sure you aren't the first.
I don't think you are going to turn his pink uniform white again...I think it's time to start over.
On the suggestion side for the next suit...I do not use bleach for anything except cleaning bath toys. I HATE bleach in laundry, and I hate the thought of having that stuff soak into my clothes and my children's clothes. However, my whites are white!
My rule is, I ONLY wash whites with whites...if it's white with a little design (even a little pink strip on the toe of a sock) I wash those with the light colors. Only true white goes in my white load. I wash and rinse with cold water, I use Gain detergent, and if there are ANY stains I use Shout Advanced Gel for Set-In Stains. I spray it on, wait a few minutes, rub it in, and throw it in the white basket. It can sit up to a week, but you ought to leave it for at least 24 hours before laundering. I check the clothes after taking them out of the wash to make sure the stain is gone...once you throw it in the dryer, you really set the stain in. If it isn't gone, I treat it again and wash it again in a few days.

My ex DID wash our daughter's white karate uniform with something red...we had to buy a new one.
If it really is the tags causing it, I would contact the school. They may be willing to replace it. Sometimes a vendor gets a batch of clothes/uniforms from a new supplier, and the quality of the material, dye, or workmanship isn't the same. You might find out that others have complained of the same problem.
I once bought two pairs of identical pants, different colors. I washed both and one shrunk several inches! I brought them both back and they replaced the one that shrunk. The above reason was given to me then.
Bleach is known for taking out everything, even the color white. try dyeing the karate suit white, or simply buy another and use a for all color bleach.
One time I made the mistake of washing my stepsons' white bed sheets that had dinosaurs on them with a red blanket and turned them into pink dinosaur sheets. Washed them again with RID (or is it Ritt? Can't remember!) red-out product and it worked great. I would try that but if it's still looking pink, you might just have to get a whole new uniform.
Try soaking the uniform in Biz bleach. Put it in the hottest water you can and soak it overnight.
Ritt whitening and brightening may work.
Otherwise...maybe it's new uniform time!
Ditto on the color remover. Don't waste any more time with bleach.
