So because of my previous pregnancy we have to see our perinatologist. (sigh). The doctor is amazing but well that whole place just makes me want to cry.

Anyone got good advice as to what to expect from them? This is our first meeting with this pregnancy. We have them on board more as a precaution. We start to see him on the 28th.

What can I do next?

My 2nd pregnancy was high risk (my son was diagnosed before birth with a complex congenital heart defect). I LOVED my Perinatologist! I felt I was getting care from the best doctors available. My 3rd pregnancy was normal, but I begged my insurance to let me go back to my Perinatologist and they did! I had to have a c-section with baby #2 and was able to have a VBAC with baby #3. I felt I was in such great hands with a specialist!!

Oh, I LOVED my perinatologist! My whole experience was awesome. Their job is to deal with complicated, or high risk pregnancies. They take great care to make you feel comfortable and confident. I was terrified before my first visit, and ended up being so pleased and relived. I loved my OB, but I preferred seeing him. He spent more time with me. He didn't make me worry, or he eased my worry. If you have questions, ASK!! They are happy to.

If I were you, I would not be upset. My experience was only awesome. I still send the practice Christmas cards every year.

I had a perinatologist for both my pregnancies due to advanced age. I actually saw the peri more than my OB as she did all my sonograms. Really, it's no big deal..they are just better trained at tracking any potential abnormalities.

While we haven't had to meet with perinatologists before, we did spend quite a bit of time with Neonatologists when my first child was in the NICU for 2 weeks after birth. One thing I learned from that experience is that most of the doctors and nurses who work with high risk pregnancies and special needs babies have extremely good bedside manner and a certain amount of tenderness that we don't always experience with other types of doctors.

They have loads of information and might ask you questions that could make you unnecessarily fearful, but I promise you that won't be their intent. They want what is best for you and your baby. Don't be afraid to ask them questions; they are there to help.
