Hi Moms.
I was just wondering if anyone of you had ideas on how to improve your child's penmanship. Maybe, just practicing? I've had my 12 yr old practice his penmanship and used a glitter glue strategy that he was taught in Kindergarten.
I just thought I'd ask other moms of other ideas. Thank you!

So much of our communication is electronic now penmanship is less and less of an issue. If it is a significant struggle after practicing and trying out different pencil grips and other strategies, it might be worth it to ask teachers if he can use the computer for any significant writing requirements. He needs to be able to READ cursive writing, but as an adult, only really needs to be able to do his signature.
This comes from my perspective as a parent of a child with special needs, but I think it's worth considering how important penmanship actually is in the big scheme of things.
My mom used to get those tracing ones and made my little brother practice for hours. If it were not for those I don't think anyone would be able to read his writing... (:
If he likes creative writing, have him tear out a picture from a magazine or newspaper and make up a story to go with it. It could be just a couple of sentences about anything. If he sees a car ad, then he could make up a story about where it's going, super tires that bounce like a trampoline or anything else. Washing machine ads are perfect for time machine stories.
