I am looking for a good Pediatrician or even a really good family Dr. For my Boys 6 years and 3 years, we moved from Springfield, Or. to here in Salem a little over a year ago and I have not found a new Pediatrician here yet. Now that it is cold and flu season I really need to have a Dr. on hand that I can take them to. A few months ago my son got really sick and we had to take him to the ER becuase everywhere I called no one was excepting new patients and now we have a huge ER bill ( and no insurance ). So any suggestions would be GREAT! Thanks so much..I do prefer a male Dr. since that is what they are used to, but im not opposed to a female Dr. either.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for getting back to me...I was worried I wouldnt hear anything back! :) Several of you recommended Salem Pediatric Clinic so I think I will give them a call and see if any of their Dr.'s are accepting new patients. Thanks to everyone who wrote back! I really do appreciate it!
Have a blessed day! J.

Salem Pediatric Clinic, Dr Karin Wieler! Actually all the Dr's we've seen in there have been great. But Dr Wieler is who we use and we absolutely love her. She is so excited to see us and our baby (7 months old). She is so gentle with our sweet little girl and excited when we tell her about the new things our baby is doing. She is great. And we've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for our appointments. Most of the time we hardly get sat down before we are called back. Good luck!

Hello,
I've been going to Children's Health Services on "D" St for 10 years. All the Dr's there are nice. My daughter's Dr is Kimberly Heggen. Dr Lace is also well known in the comm'ty.

I love the staff at Childhood Health that is on 'D' street near 25th, a block or two away from the mental hospital on center. I haven't been able to use them for a couple of years because our insurance was changed to Kaiser Permanente, but I still have friends who still see Dr. Lace(male) and Dr. Heggen(female). My sister didn't care for Heggen because she would not concede the possibility that my nephew was allergic to red dye#40 or yellow #5. I had no problem though. I thought she was great.

ThWest Salem Clinic has a "sliding fee" policy for those without insurance (in other words, you pay according to your income). Also, I take my boys (now teenagers) to Dr. Balmer. He is also in a low-income clinic which is in the old Salem hospital on Medical Center Drive. I think they also work on the "sliding fee" program. You might also apply for OHP just for the children.

best wishes!

Dr. Karin Weiler at Salem Pediatrics is wonderful! Not sure if she is accepting new patients, but worth a try. Also, I know there are some great male doctors that work there as well.
