The BRAT diet works very well. No dairy. Bananas, rice, applesause, toast. If she doesn't like pedialyte, you can try gatoraide. Water is the best as well, gotta keep her hydrated.
Hi Moms,
My 2 year old has come down with diarhea and since she's never had it before I'm not sure if Pedialyte is the best thing or not? She's literally only had one fever and a couple sniffles since she was born (boo hoo for me, I know) so I'm not well versed in treating her for this type of thing. Other than the fact that she's blowing through a diaper every time she has an episode she seems fine - playing normal, no fever and generally happy - just a little more clingy than normal and a few more melt downs. I'm due to deliver our son on Wed so I'm hoping to get this under contorl asap. Any suggestions/advice are appreciated. I'm thinking a bland diet and some Pedialyte tonight to start.

Pedialyte helps for dehydrations, but give her binding foods like bananas and peanut butter, stay away from fruits, fruit juices and applesauce, they only make it worse!

My son (2 years) will not drink the Pedialyte and in fear of dehydration, I gave him Gatorade instead. I later asked my pediatrician if that was ok and was told it was 2nd best to Pedialyte. I also use the BRAT diet. So sorry for your situation!! Hope it passes quickly!
My son just got over a stomach flu (vomiting & diarhea). My doc said to give him pedialyte. He only drank it one day and refused it after. So if yours doesn't like it, I would just make sure to keep her hydrated with at least water/juice. No dairy. That was trouble for my son. Although, he liked the pedialyte popsicles. That might be another option for you as well. And yes like everyone else said, keep the diet bland.
Good luck!
Pedialyte is fine if she will take it. My kids are justing getting over rotavirus (VERY nasty) and they liked the pedialyte freezer pops but did not want to drink the liquid. Do not give her juice as that can worsen the diarrhea. You can also give her probiotics to help shorten the course of it. Hope she feels better soon and good luck with your upcoming birth!
Yes Pedialyte and the other things the moms suggested also NO dairy at all. My girlfriend just went though this with her son it lasted a week it would have been shorter but she kept giving him dairy NO dairy.
I'm sorry you guys are going through this! Follow the BRAT diet(bananas, rice, applesauce[careful of sugars], and toast).I don't think that pedialyte would hurt; it might be very helpful. Some sources recommend NOT mixing it with other fluids. I would get flavored in that case. Watch out for other symptoms too, as it could be more serious! I hope this clears up soon! Good luck with the baby!!
yes, that is exactly what you should do.
Doctors usually recommend a rice, apples, banana diet and Pedialyte, but i think any bland foods would be fine.
Pedialyte is best to help replace lost nutrients through her diarrhea. To help it taste better, add 1 teaspoon Jell-o to each 8 ounces. You can also try a B.R.A.T. diet. B-bananas R-rice A-applesauce T-toast(cherrios) these foods are more binding and will help. Medicaiton is not usually given to stop the diarrhes,so that the virus can run it's course. Hope this helps.
