Go to the doctor! Make sure it is not something more serious like celiac disease. I was 18 months old when I was diagnosed with it. If he has it then he won't be able to tolerate bread, crackers, cakes, etc... anything made with wheat, barly or rye.

Avoid apple juice! I was giving my son apple juice after getting over a stomach virus and wondering why he kept pooping when I told his daycare provider she said he was not pooping like that at daycare so she was like do you give him apple juice I was like yes, well apparently apple juice is a natural laxative to some toddlers so on the BRAT diet I'd be careful even with the applesauce until he is back to normal.

You can add yogurt to his food list. If he has an allergy to dairy, you can also get acidofilis(sp?). Ask at the pharmacy. The kind that they have at the pharmacy has milk in it but they will have some on the shelves that is dairy free. The acidofilis (sp?) will help to firm up things. Good Luck?

Bland starchy foods like bread & crackers are good. Stay away from juices or anything with a lot of sugar, that can make it worse.

The BRAT diet. Banana's, rice, cereal, and toast. Push fluids, pedialyte is awesome. My kids won't drink it, so I give them tea when they have diarrhea.

If it doesn't get better I would call the doctor. If he doesn't have fever though, its probably just something that upset his tummy or a little virus. Just watch him so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Have a great day!

Water, water, water... and bland foods like toast and as others mentioned, BRATY.

Most likely it's a virus and it will pass shortly (ok, not funny :D ). See his doctor if you notice red (bloody) streaks in the toilet or if it continues for more than 4-5 days and he's not eating/drinking.

If his stomach hurts, I would only feed him small portions at a time to make sure he keeps it down.

I had that (or a similar virus) early in March - NOT FUN - and apparently the stomach bug has been ruthless this year (from our pedi). It got much better after 4 days, however.
Hang in there!

My 3 year old son had the same problem for a really long time.....my pediatrician said it was "toddler's diarrhea".

It is very common w/ little kiddos b/c they eat soooooooo many carbs - fruit, goldfish, crackers, animal cookies, ect as snacks. Once I started really making more of an effort to get him to eat protein (turkey sandwich instead of PB&J, bites of "Mommy's chicken" or "Daddy's salmon") - his stools NOTICIBLY firmed up. Too the point his pre-school teachers even mentioned a huge difference.

The only thing I would add to the brat diet is crackers, they work like the toast.

My uncle is a PA in California and he always tells me to give my kids the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. I would cut out milk for a few days and also any fruit juices. You should give him pedialyte to help keep him from becoming dehydrated. If that does not work I would take him to see a dr. I hope this helps. Also, if he is still in a diaper or pull up I would try putting a little corn starch on him if he is irritated down there. Good luck!

Yes, BRAT diet is the best and I also learned tha anything that you give him has to be in very small portions, if he is drinking pedialite make sure that he is taking one or two oz every couple of minutes so he can keep it in his stomach. NEVER offer him more that that.
Good luck.

Pedialyte is really the best thing when they have diarrhea. My sisters a nurse and she says the most dangerous thing is the child getting dehydrated. So she suggests making the liquid into popcicles. She doesn't recommend actual popcicles because of the suger in them, which is not good when your child has diarrhea.

Try the B.R.A.T. treatment... Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. A little Pedialite wouldn't hurt. Plenty of water. Good luck.

I disagree with BRAT for diarrhea (vomiting, yes)...fruit will pull water from the intestines and make his stool runny even more. Take him off dairy and fruit/fruit juices for a few days. The main thing is to make sure he is not dehydrated. Give him clear liquids like Gatorade, sprite (diluted with a little water so he doesn't get hooked) and plain water are best. You can do Kool ade too (well-dilute that too). I would suggest rice and pastas. Stay away from fried foods, but breads and cereals should help.

Sounds like he has a food allergy, I went through this with my daughter and now she has that problem with her 2 yr old. The only thing that really help were the food shots (not many allegist will give them because insurance will not pay for it) but it saved her life. Her diarrhea was that bad.
But this may help feed the toddler pea's. Stay away from wheat products, milk and eggs. My daughter also was allergic to dies in the food, so if you notice it is worst after eating or drinking something in food color in it, you may want to stay away from them. Just remember most foods including baby food has thicking agent, and guess what it is, Wheat. Wheat may not be on the food label, so best to make your own food.

Hi
We call it the BRAT diet. Banana, rice, apple, toast. The symptoms may last a while (up to 2 wks., call your pedi.) Give him pedilite type of drinks. I think that might help.

I agree with the BRATY diet:
* Bananas
* Rice/simple cereal
* Applesauce...not apple slices...unsweetened applesauce, maybe even diluted if that's easier on him.
* Toast
* Yogurt

Yogurt (plain, maybe with a little applesauce added) would be the ONLY diary I would consider...if you use the sweetened yogurts...you're defeating the purpose of the simple, natural cultures which is what will help nip diarrhea in the bud.

Also, if you use Gatorade, you MUST dilute it...one part Gatorade to one part water...little bodies REALLY can't handle the sodium content at full-strength so it's important to go half-and half. I have also found that if I use the "Rain" varieties...they have WAY less dye in them. My feeling is: if their little body is already struggling with some kind of bug...the last thing they need is a bunch of unnecessary chemicals poured in there too.

My son wouldn't take Pedialyte in the drink version but he happily drank the frozen "pop-ice" style pedialyte so that might work for you too.

Best of luck and hang in there!!! Sometimes it's way harder on Mom than the little one when a kiddo is sick so understand you're not alone ;)

Good Luck!!!
