Good Morning ladies. My little boy is 2yrs.4mo old. He has been going potty on the big potty off and on for the past couple months. I want to try to put him in big boy underwear to see if I can potty train him. But I also want to try to get him off of his pacifier. Which one should I do first? I don't think he will be hard to potty train because anytime I take him to the potty he goes. He even stands up and tee tee's like a big boy. Also when I do try to potty train him should I wait until the weekend when we are home all day or should I go ahead and start now and put him in underwear when we get home from daycare/work?

What can I do next?

I would say pacifier. It is usually recommended they be taken away after about one year old because they can affect teeth growth and speaking. After he gets over that, then try the potty and just dive right in. If he understands the potty process, I would get rid of his diapers and do big boy pants all the way. Be prepared for a few accidents, but if you are consistent, he will probably get it down very quickly. My son went in the potty off and on for awhile, and then we decided to just go for it and it only took him about a week to get into the habit. Good Luck!

I would say pacifier should go first. That is a much more tangible "baby" thing. Then you can show him that he is taking big boy steps and the next is not wear diapers any more.

I say pacifier first. Generally, those are taken away first, before diapers, so I'd go in that order. My son's binky was taken away at 13 months. His diapers/pull-ups weren't taken away (we went cold turkey- no more, night or day) at 3.5yo. We tried earlier than that- at 2.5 and 3, but he wasn't ready. Just my opinion.

i agree with rachel, but space out the two more than weeks. i'd give the potty training a few months to really sink in, then go after the paci. if he resists potty training now, then shelve it for a few months.

If he wasn't going potty at all, I'd say the pacifier first. However, since he's already going and trying, I'd go ahead with that one. If his pull up is staying dry, then there is no harm in putting him in underwear as soon as you get home. Once he's proficient in that for a couple weeks, then attack the pacifier.

Gee, I think this is kinda hard. I think you should start with the potty first. I did a weekend thing with my son and within two days he had it down. I think you should not take the pacifier away until you have the potty down.
