Overwhelmed? Procrastinating?

Did any one else put stuff off all summer saying "I'll do it when the kids are back at school"? Now that the kids are back in school are you overwhelmed and not even sure where to start? I guess I should start by making a "to do" list to put things in perspective, but right now I would rather procrastinate and ask questions on mamapedia. I seem to be walking from room to room starting things, but not finishing anything, because it occurs to me to do something else half way through!

What can I do next?

I always tell my friends to do one thing/something/anything...for 5 minutes. You would be surprised how much you get done in that time. And, you'll be more surprised at how you'll keep going once you get started.

A journey of 1000 miles begins with 1 step :)

I've been finishing my daughters scrap book for about 7 years now. I said I would make it through grade 8. Well I fell off about 7 years ago, but continued to by scrapbook paper, stickers, you name it. All I have to do is put the pictures in. I even have the pictures sorted by event/ activity. Everything is in a big plastic container neatly organized. I should really finish this huh?

I'll get right to it eventually! ;-)

I suggest you give yourself a break already. Relax, enjoy yourself.

Moms are the only species on the planet who think it's unforgivable to have a free 5 freaking minutes. We give everyone ELSE time/space to veg, but *WE* alwaaaaays gotta be doing something.

(This is more for me than you, of course. I'm battling the guilts every minute of everyday having Time To Myself. All those years of going full tilt 24hrs a day ought to have earned me DECADES of Time To Myself, yet here I am secretly feeling lazy and unproductive, sigh)

Like everyone else says, if you MUST do something you've been *meaning* to do, pick one project a day.

:)

I could have written this post! This happens to me every year and my kids are in 7th and 10th grades. I have found that it helps to focus on just one room or one project at a time. Making a to do list can be help, but can also sometimes increase the feelings of being overwhelmed. It also helps to set small goals--like 20 minutes a day--and you would be surprised by what you can sometime accomplish. Good luck!

In the same boat. Just pick one thing to start and have a paper to jot down if you think of something else to do. That way you can at least get one thing done before starting a new thing. That list will get long so be prepared :)
