I went to the ER Sunday night after having pain all day in my right lower quadrant. Thinking it was my appendix, but after some test and an ultra sound they found I have 2 ovarian cyst one on each side. I Stayed home from work Monday, and planned on going in on Tuesday but still felt a bit of pain. Tuesday morning I woke up and had pain. By the mid morning and early afternoon I was feeling good, did some laundry and dishes.and thought I would go to work Wednesday. By 4pm I was in pain again. I know it didn't burst or the pain would be way worse, but I feel bad taking another day off work. I am very active in my job lifting and working out, walking and don't get to sit down til lunch and am scared it will hurt once i get to work. My boss is totally cool with me taking the time off but I feel like I should not be in pain still. I have been talking with my doctor and have a follow up scheduled, but didn't say when the pain should go away. Any advice?

What can I do next?

I'm sorry you're going through this, L.. I did too. Mine had to be removed laproscopically. It ended up being 7cms large, and the doctor told me that usually when a cyst is that big, he ends up having to remove the ovary. I was lucky that he was able to stop the bleeding and save my ovary.

About a year after my surgery, I got another cyst on the other ovary, and it burst. WOW! That pain was really something else! Then I had another a few months later. The thing is, as painful as bursting cysts are, they are better than having the ones that don't burst because they don't make you have to have surgery.

What I did after two burst cysts was go on birth control pills that the doctor said would help with this. Mircette is what I took.

The part about bursting cysts and BC pills is kind of an aside to your problem. What I do want to say is that you need an ultrasound at the very least. And from the sounds of your pain, I don't think that you're going to get better without having it removed, I'm sorry to say.

Best of luck to you here,
Dawn

Go take care of it. They aren't going to go away on their own. My friend's 13 year old daughter just had very similar symptoms. The cyst grew so large, so quickly that they ended up having to remove one ovary and fallopian tube as well. Call your doctor immediately and say you need to be seen right away. If they won't fit you in, go to the ER.

Definitely keep an eye on it and see a doc, to see if you do have PCOS. I have been dealing w/ that since I was 18. Painful, for sure. But, I get cysts regularly. I guess after having dealt w/ it for so long, I'm used to it. I have tried BC, but for me, that wasn't the answer. (I have a host of other issues too.) One thing I will say, if a cyst does burst, in my experience, you will see what looks like stringy pinkish/red blood.

For me, because of the PCOS, my ovaries would fill w/ cysts, causing my ovaries to hang down, causing tremendous pain. Having had a broken neck and broken leg, I guess I just have gotten used to being in pain most of the time.

There are different things your doc can try to help you deal w/ the pain...for me, it took 7 different docs before someone finally figured it out. And then I dealt w/ infertility for 4 yrs. After my kids, the problem seemed to lessen. I don't seem to have as much pain or as often.

Now I can look forward to menopause! LOL! Yea, my body hates me...I never know when I will bleed or be in pain. It's freakin awesome! ;) Best of luck in finding some answers and relief to your pain!

When I had them they hurt so bad that I would double over in pain and even get dizzy blackout and I think I threw up a few times. These do go away, I think mine took about 10 days each, but I didn't have to have surgery. I went on Nuvaring and that made a big difference. I haven't had another one since I did except when I went off of it for a while. I'm sorry this is happening to you, it will be get better, but that doesn't mean it won't come back. Talk to your doc about keeping them gone. Good luck!!

L.,

Did they do any scans (MRI, CT) to check the size of the cysts? Do have them keep an eye on them. Some do go away on their own, but if you are having more pain, call your doctor. Sometimes they will twist-- if the pain is worse than what the painkillers can mask, get help right away. I don't want to scare you, but if they twist too much they can affect the ovary. (I had an ordeal with one a few years ago-- it was very large.)

I did have one rupture years ago-- it was terrible while it happened, but I was pain-free and back at work the next day.

Oh I feel your pain. Are you taking anything for the?. First off I would get to the doctor to see what they can do. This could last a while until it erupts and seems there should be something they could do. I have to take BC because of them (I have PCOS). I have had 2 erupt and it is painful! Mine all went pretty quickly though...never lingered like yours. The first one I thought was an appendix too. Once they erupt pain goes away. Second one I was out of town and laid with cold sweats and thought I was going to throw up I was in so much pain. I have read it is not good to just let them go and need to be monitored by a doctor.

I had an ovarian cysts that burst. I had a doctors note (not that I needed it) to be out from work for 3 days and to rest. He gave me some pain meds and told me to lay with a heating pad on the area of pain. I did that the best I could. It hurt for a couple of weeks before the pain of the cyst went away. I just took it easy and laid down with a heating pad whenever i had the chance. And don't forget to take the pain meds or at least IB profen.

I had a cyst that burst but it was really like a slow leak. The pain went away in a few days and the worst of it was on the weekend. I didn't miss work but I had a desk job. Feel better soon.

I would get them all the time- most of the time they were painless or I had a dull nagging pain. Almost always they would resolve on their own- even the large ones. I just had to take it easy- try not to overexert. I had a couple burst- that was the sickest I have ever been in my life and the pain was close to labor pains. Horrible. I went on birth control after the last one ruptured. Enough was enough.
If it gets too bad, call the dr back and have him prescribe you something for the pain if OTC pain meds don't work. Also, putting heat on my lower back helped. I would definitely follow up with the your gynecologist if things don't improve soon.
