My son will be starting a new school tomorrow for the summer months. His previous school was 9-11:30. Now, this school is for 5 hrs. So 9-2 or whatever 5 hr time span we choose. This will include lunch and nap time. He is VERY shy, but I think once he gets used to it, it will be fine. But I am wondering if this week (tues and thurs) should I pick him up before nap time? He will be laying down at 12:30 and I will pick him up at 2. He normally doesn't take a nap til 2 anyway. So I am just thinking will he be thrown way off by not only starting a new school but also taking a nap there. or should I just throw him in and let him adjust? I have talked to him about eating lunch and taking a nap there and we picked his blanket and all that out, so he knows what to expect. so what do you wise ladies think?

I agree with the other moms. I would leave him there so he can adjust. Picking him up may make it worse. What if he needs to stay the whole time one day? I think that would really freak him out. He will be fine. Good luck mama!

For my OWN son (aka, this won't translate to all kids) he does sooooo much better with 'everything at once'. That way it's a day or two to transition, instead of change after change after change, and his expectations going solidly out the window. It drags the process out and makes it harder on everyone involved.

when my daughter started her daycare it was a completely different schedule than what we did at home but i just kept her there the full time to let her adjust all at once with everything then we adjusted our schedule here at home to hers at daycare....i mean shes there 4 days a week for nap and lunch so it was just easier for all of us that way

I would keep him there.
No need to pick him up early.
If you do, he may think he can do that everyday.
Just let him get used to the routine at Daycare.
Or it may be harder for the Providers, to get him acclimated if he is always leaving earlier.

Why pick him up before nap time?
You already talked to him about it.
And what the routine is there.
That's fine.

If he does not nap, then the Daycare, how do they handle that?
It is usually, quite time, for the kids if some don't nap.

Being at daycare, will be active/tiring.
So, he may very well, end up napping at the Daycare nap time.
Let him adjust.

If you pick him up before nap time, routinely, why have him there, for those hours??? You are paying for those hours.

Or, you choose an earlier time span, and then he will be done after lunch/before nap time, and you bring him home to nap.
