Opening Your Own Business -- Ideas ??

Hello everyone,
I am a software engineer, however I am going to quit my job in few weeks to be home in summer and enjoy with kids. I am thinking about opening my own business, sometime later this year, when the kids go to school. As a mom, I struggled to find a restaurant, other than the fast food ones, where the kids can play and the place have healthy food and moms can relax and rest -- like a hybrid of Starbucks, somewhat Gymboree kind atmosphere, and healthy snacks. A place where moms and kids can have a get-together. I am wondering if you think there is a demand .. like will you like to go to a place for lunch or coffee.
Is there any other mom who has opened her own business and doing good -- I can certainly use some guidance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi All,

Thanks to everyone who responded. I looked at the websites of similar places and possibly investigate more after three weeks when I am finally home and have some time. I will keep you posted. Is there anyone out there who wants to do the same thing ... I will love to have a great partner ...

Hi S.,
I am a stay at home mother of a very high maintenance 5 year old. I started my own business 4 1/2 years ago and gave up a flying career to do so and to be at home with my little one. I am a Mary Kay Sales Director and just can't say enough about this awesome opportunity. I can earn full time pay on a part time schedule. I have the flexibility to put my daughter first, I don't deal with the corporate grind and I work for myself. I do not report to anyone and I have gained a ton of friends from this career. If you would like some more information, I would be happy to provide it to you.
Sincerely,
S. F.

I find it to be very amazing that S. asks your opinion on her idea and all you can do is spam your own businesses. That's rude in my book.

Back to the topic:
S., I, personally would definitely go to a place in which you're dreaming of. To enjoy a cup of coffee with other moms while the kids played in a play area, would be awesome! esp considering that they aren't allowed to have coffee, kid-friendly snacks and drinks are a great idea!

All you have to do is come up with a business plan, write a few grant letters, apply for a business loan, and you're set! Please post and let us know where you go with this idea. I would love to come and visit!

I am a new (well, almost 2 years now) stay-at-home mom who does part-time work via the internet. Kudos to you to being able to pull it off! It's funny. I had this very same idea a few years ago. Especially with younger kids, trying to go out to eat and feel comfortable and relaxed is not easy. Few restaurants, even "family" restaurants are really conducive to an enjoyable experience for parents or kids. I always wanted to go someplace pleasant, with good food, that didn't involve nasty, fried foods or a giant mouse in order to keep my son entertained. I knew I couldn't be alone. So I, of course, think it's a great idea, but one that I haven't had the opportunity to implement. Where are you located?

Are you kidding??! Of COURSE it's a great idea!
It's perfect for busy moms who want "talk" time with others moms with kids in tow---givong the kids a place to play so moms have their time. it's the only good alternative to a play date in your home....and of course, that involves having a clean house, which many of us don't often have (so don't always want to open our doors!)
I wish you luck--I have no business advice, but can say with great certainty this would be a place that I think many moms would frequent (dads too!)

There is absolutely a demand in this area! I have been saying this for years...even before I had a child! LOL It's crazy that Tallahassee doesn't offer places like this already. I'll bet if you could get a business plan together, maybe recruit a partner who has a business background to invest with you, you could make a killing! ;) I'd certainly be there. LOL It's ironic that I came across this today, as I was just reading in a Parenting magazine (an issue from last year..I'm very behind on my reading, lol) that "new parent-friendly and kid-enticing local java joints are popping up nationwide in suburban neighborhoods. They offer toy boxes at your table & indoor jungle gyms. An addictive combination that's the best idea since caffeine." I'll drink to that! :) Good luck & please keep us posted!

Hi S.,

If you would like to just try out doing home parties, but without shelling out a bunch of money to get started, please go to my site at www.partylite.biz/votiveconfidence. Unlike almost every other home party company out there, PartyLite gives you the opportunity to try it out for FREE (and if you start in June, you can get an extra $75 in product for yourself or your kit for $12!!). If you find it's not for you, you get to keep your kit, the money you've made so far and walk away, no catch. The great thing is you also have support and training from people who have been where you are in your business, business aids, etc. and there is no limit on how much you can make...it's up to you if you want to make $300/month or $300,000+. You also don't have to worry about making deliveries, keeping inventory to sell others, and again, no investment! Not to mention, who doesn't love candles?

I hope you'll at least go to my website and look it over. If you would like more information (no pressure, that's just not my style), just fill out the Contact Me page on my site and I can send you a CD-Rom and some other info so you can make an informed decision.

Tealight-fully yours,
A.

I think it's a great idea! My dh and I used to talk about this idea, wishing somebody would do it! I'd love to be able to go somewhere and actually sit, relax, and talk to other moms. I was in a playgroup that used to meet in the back room of Panera Bread. We all brought a few toys for the kids. It was really nice. It wasn't very kid friendly, that's why we used the back room. The only other option was McD's. Of course my kids would love to eat there all the time, but I don't allow that. I'd love a place where they can play and eat healthy!

I don't have any business advise, but I love the idea, especially one with good food. I have unusual children in that they don't eat chicken fingers, fries etc. My 5 year old loves sushi and other "adult" food, but it is difficult to find restaurants to go to that are good for her.
